RC Sparta Prague
RC Sparta Prague is a Czech Republic, Czech Rugby union, rugby club based in Prague. They currently play in the Extraliga ragby XV and are the second oldest club in the Czech Republic after RC Slavia Prague, Slavia Prague. The club forms part of the Sparta Prague sports network. History Early years The club was officially founded on 28 August 1928, with the first coach being Frenchman Andrée Cannellas. Their first match was on 28 April 1929 against VŠ sport Brno. Later on in 1929 they took on fellow Prague side Slavia Prague, the latter prevailing 23–3. They did however manage to beat Slavia 8-0 not too long afterwards. In 1931 Sparta won their first of five Czechoslovak championship titles and supplied a number of players to the national team that took on Germany national rugby union team, Germany in Leipzig. Extraliga Ragby XV
The Extraliga rugby XV is a rugby club competition played in the Czech Republic and is the top level of rugby in the country. There is a promotion-relegation process between the Extraliga ragby and the 1. Liga ragby XV. The league used to be known as KB Extraliga due to sponsorship by Komerční banka (KB) which lasted until the 2014/15 season. The season usually runs from September to May, although in the 2008 season, it was only from August through November 2008. Since 2008 the final has been played at the Synot Tip Arena in Prague. RC Slavia Prague is a Czech rugby club based in Prague. They currently play in the KB Extraliga and are the oldest existing club in the Czech Republic. The club forms part of the Slavia Prague sports network. History The club was founded on 13 April 1927. On 7 May of that year, the first rugby match in Prague took place at Slavia, with Slavia Bratislava squaring off against Slavia Brno. Slavia were the first winners of the Czechoslovak Championships, back in 1929. It turned out to be the start of a very successful period for them, winning five out of the first six championships. Martin Jágr
Martin Jágr (born 29 September 1979 in Prague) is a Czech rugby union footballer. He is nicknamed "Jaguar". His position on the field is on the wing. Jágr is usually considered one of the best rugby union players from his country. He was first noticed at Sparta Prague, in the Czech Republic, where he played from 1997/1998 to 1999/2000, winning two titles of National Champion, within the first two seasons. Jágr was then assigned for the Welsh team of Pontypool RFC, staying an entire season. The Czech wing then moved to Toulon, at that time in the French Rugby Pro D2, where he played through the 2008–09 season. He played for Toulon teams that won the Pro D2 crown in 2005 and 2008. After a 2008–2009 season that saw Toulon flirt with relegation before a late-season surge brought them to safety, he was one of many players released from the team.
