R538 (South Africa)
The R538 is a Regional Route in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The route begins east of Mbombela and passes through White River to connect with Hazyview. Route Its southern terminus is an interchange with the N4 and the R104 about 14 kilometres east of the Nelspruit (Mbombela) city centre. It begins by heading northwards for 11 kilometres, through Karino, to reach the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport entrance. It proceeds north, then west, for 12 kilometres to enter the town centre of White River as Chief Mgiyeni Khumalo Drive and reach a junction with the R40. The R538 and the R40 join to be co-signed northwards as Theo Kleynhans Street. Mbombela
Mbombela (also known as Nelspruit) is a city in northeastern South Africa. It is the capital of the Mpumalanga province. Located on the Crocodile River, Mbombela lies about by road west of the Mozambique border, east of Johannesburg and north of the Eswatini border. Mbombela was one of the host cities of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. History San rock art and Iron Age archaeological evidence indicate the Mbombela area has a long history of human habitation. Construction for the Mpumalanga legislature revealed farming settlements, storage pits, burial sites, and pottery ranging from the 6th to 17th century. The presence of cattle bones at the Riverside site is thought to be evidence that early Nguni practices of labola originated in eastern South Africa. White River ( af, Witrivier) is a small holiday and farming town situated just north of Mbombela in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The farms in the region produce tropical fruits, macadamia nuts, vegetables, flowers and timber. As of 2011, White River had a population of 16,639. History Pre-colonial Era Archaeological evidence from surrounding areas suggests the land that later became White River has been occupied for thousands of years. Hazyview is a sub-tropical farming town in Mpumalanga, South Africa, renowned for its large banana and macadamia nut industries, contributing about 20% of South Africa's bananas and 30% of macadamia output. The N4 is a national route in South Africa that runs from Skilpadshek on the Botswana border, past Rustenburg, Pretoria, eMalahleni and Mbombela, to Komatipoort on the Mozambique border. It forms the South African section of the Trans-Kalahari Corridor, which runs from Walvis Bay to Maputo, meaning that it links the east and west coasts of Southern Africa. Since the completion of the A2 through Botswana, the entire Corridor is now a world-class standard highway; it features at least one carriageway in each direction of high-speed traffic plus a paved shoulder for its entire length. The R104 is a regional route in South Africa that is the designation for some of the old sections of roads that were previously the N4, prior to upgrading. It connects Pretoria with Middelburg in Mpumalanga via Bronkhorstspruit and Witbank. It also connects Pretoria with Rustenburg in the North West province via Hartbeespoort and Mooinooi. The R104 is also made up of a road in Nelspruit (Mbombela) which was previously part of the N4 national route. As the N4 bypasses the central part of the city to the north on a newer highway (opened on 13 June 2010), the old short road through Nelspruit central (Samora Machel Drive) is now designated as the R104. The R40 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects the Eswatini border at Bulembu via Barberton, Nelspruit and Hoedspruit with Phalaborwa.
