The R39 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Standerton with Ermelo. It is a route in the province of Mpumalanga. Route The R39 has its beginnings in Baumann Street, Florapark, northern Standerton, at an intersection with the R50, R23 and R546 routes. It leaves the town in a north-easterly direction with the Grootdraai Dam to its east. Junctioning with the R38 that heads north to Bethal Bethal () is a farming town in Mpumalanga, South Africa. Standerton
Standerton is a large commercial and agricultural town lying on the banks of the Vaal River in Mpumalanga, South Africa, which specialises in cattle, dairy, maize and poultry farming. The town was established in 1876 and named after Boer leader Commandant A. H. Stander. During the First Boer War a British garrison in the town was besieged by the Boers for three months. General Jan Smuts won this seat during elections and went on to assist in setting up the League of Nations. Standerton is part of the Lekwa Local Municipality. History Standerton was founded in 1878 on a farm called ''Grootverlangen'' and named after its owner Commandant Adriaan Henrik Stander. Morgenzon ( Dutch for ''morning sun'') is a ghost town situated on the banks of the Osspruit River ''(Ox Stream)'' with an agricultural school (which is all the town is known for) in Mpumalanga province, South Africa. The town is 45 km south-west of Ermelo and 35 km south-east of Bethal and is notable for the bad road infrastructure when passing through the town. Although, during the past year or two (2021/2022) the road is in better shape than those of the surrounding towns as the road is maintained regularly,thus far. Bosbok Pharmacy in Morgenzon, with its very own pharmacist, is available to relieve the need for medication, as well as small gifts, stationery, toiletries etc. VKB Landbou has a branch in Morgenzon. Ermelo, Mpumalanga
Ermelo () is the educational, industrial and commercial town of the 7,750 km2 Gert Sibande District Municipality in Mpumalanga province, Republic of South Africa. It is both a mixed agriculture and mining region. It is located 210 km east of Johannesburg. History Some of the earliest inhabitants of the area were the Leghoya people. Not much is known about them, but ruins of their settlements dating back to c.1400 can be found in the area. During the mid-1800s, the area prior to the formation as a village, was an ''outspan'' area for resting teams of draw animals transporting goods across the region mainly due to the water of the small lakes dotting the area. Modern Ermelo was founded by Dutch Reformed Church Reverend Frans Lion Cachet (1835–1899). He would minister to the many farms in the area. Mpumalanga () is a province of South Africa. The name means "East", or literally "The Place Where the Sun Rises" in the Swazi, Xhosa, Ndebele and Zulu languages. The R50 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Pretoria with Standerton via Delmas and Leandra. Route Gauteng The R50 begins in Pretoria, Tshwane (Administrative Capital of South Africa) near the suburbs of Erasmusrand and Waterkloof Ridge, at an intersection with the N1 Danie Joubert Freeway ( Pretoria Eastern Bypass). North of the freeway, it is designated as the M9 Metropolitan Route and named Rigel Avenue. It begins as Delmas Road and heads south-east, passing through Erasmuskloof and meeting the M10 Metropolitan Route (Solomon Mahlangu Drive) before passing in-between Wingate Park and Elardus Park and becoming the eastern border of the Rietvlei Nature Reserve. The R23 is a provincial route in South Africa that links Benoni with Volksrust via Brakpan, Heidelberg and Standerton. Route The R23 begins at the suburb of Birchleigh in the city of Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng at an intersection with the M57 Municipal Route (just south of the M57 Route's intersection with the R25). It heads south-east, bypassing the Glen Marais suburb, before crossing the R21 freeway (Pretoria-Boksburg Highway) as High Road. It then crosses the M32 municipal road and becomes the road separating the Pomona and Bredell suburbs, before leaving Kempton Park and entering Benoni. The first suburb it passes through is Brentwood Park, where it joins the M45 municipal route by way of a left turn onto Great North Road. The R546 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Kinross with Vrede via Evander and Standerton. Route Its northern terminus is in Kinross, Mpumalanga, at a junction with the R29. It is initially co-signed with the R547 southwards for a small distance before the R547 becomes its own road to the south-south-west, while the R546 heads south. Just after, it crosses the N17 Highway. It passes by Evander, where it meets the south-western terminus of the R580 Road from Secunda. From Evander, it goes southwards for 54 km, passing through the township of Embalenhle and the village of Charl Cilliers, to Standerton. Grootdraai Dam
Grootdraai Dam is a combined gravity and earth-fill type dam located on the Vaal River, near Standerton, Mpumalanga, South Africa. It was established in 1981. Background Grootdraai Dam is a composite structure comprising a central concrete gravity section 360 m long and two earthfill flanks giving a total crest length of 2180 m and a maximum wall height of 42 m above lowest foundation level. The dam was completed in 1982 and was built primarily to support the water needs of the SASOL I, II and III coal to petrol plants at Secunda, Eskom's Tutuka Power Station as well as the Matla Power Station, Duvha Power Station, Kendal Power Station and Kriel Power Station located on the coal fields in the adjacent Olifants River basin. R38 (South Africa)
The R38 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Standerton with Kaapmuiden via Bethal, Carolina and Barberton. It is a main route through the province of Mpumalanga. Route The R38 starts at a junction with the R39 Road 16 kilometres north-east of Standerton, just north-east of the Grootdraai Dam. It begins by heading north-north-east for 44 kilometres to the town of Bethal. It bypasses the Emziinoni Township and enters Bethal as Anderson Street. At the Simon Street junction, the R38 becomes Simon Street eastwards.
