Río Grande De Santiago
The Río Grande de Santiago, or Santiago River, is a river in western Mexico. It flows westwards from Lake Chapala via Ocotlán through the states of Jalisco and Nayarit to empty into the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the longest rivers in Mexico, measuring up long. Geography The river begins at Lake Chapala, running through Ocotlán and continuing roughly north-west through the Sierra Madre Occidental range, receiving the Verde, Juchipila, Bolaños, Huaynamota, Mololoa, and other tributaries. The Río Grande de Santiago then descends over 1700 meters as it heads towards the sea. Downstream from Lake Chapala, the river and its major tributaries have carved deep narrow canyons, or ''barrancas'', which can be 600 meters lower than the surrounding plateau. Nayarit, officially the Free and Sovereign State of Nayarit, is one of the 31 states that, along with Mexico City, comprise the Political divisions of Mexico, Federal Entities of Mexico. El Nayar
El Nayar is a municipality in the Mexican state of Nayarit, being the largest municipality in Nayarit. The population was 30,551 in 2005 in a total area of 5,100 km². Aguamilpa Dam
The Aguamilpa Dam is an embankment dam on the Río Grande de Santiago in the Mexican state of Nayarit, northeast of Tepic. The primary purpose of the dam is hydroelectric power generation and it supplies a 960 MW power station with water. Construction on the dam began in 1989 and it was completed in 1993 while the power station became operational in 1994. Background Funding for the project was supplied by the Mexican Government, World Bank and USD$250 million was invested by several foreign governments.
