Râșnov (; german: Rosenau; hu, Barcarozsnyó; Transylvanian Saxon dialect: ''Ruusenåå''; Latin: ''Rosnovia'') is a town in Brașov County, Transylvania, Romania with a population of 15,022. It is located at about from the city of Brașov and about the same distance from Bran, on DN73, a road that links Wallachia and Transylvania. History The Roman fort of Cumidava was discovered in 1856 near the town. The Râșnov Fortress was first built as a castle by the Teutonic Knights in the years 1211–1225. Râșnov was mentioned for the first time in 1331 as ''Rosnou'' and again in 1388 as ''villa Rosarum''. While the village was razed many times in its history by Tatars, Turks, and Wallachians, the fortress was conquered only once, in 1612, by Gabriel Báthory. Gabriel Báthory
Gabriel Báthory ( hu, Báthory Gábor; 15 August 1589 – 27 October 1613) was Prince of Transylvania from 1608 to 1613. Born to the Roman Catholic branch of the Báthory family, he was closely related to four rulers of the Principality of Transylvania (a vassal state of the Ottoman Empire which had developed in the eastern territories of the medieval Kingdom of Hungary). His father, Stephen Báthory, held estates in the principality, but never ruled it. Being a minor when his father died in 1601, Gabriel became the ward of the childless Stephen Báthory, from the Protestant branch of the family, who converted him to Calvinism. 2013 European Youth Winter Olympic Festival
The 2013 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival was an international multi-sport event held between 17 and 22 February 2013, in Braşov, Romania, with some of the events also held in Râșnov, Predeal and Fundata. It was the 11th edition of the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival. It was organized by the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR), headed by Octavian Morariu. 1,465 athletes, aged between 14 and 18, from 45 nations participated in 36 events of eight disciplines. It was the first multi-sport competition hosted by Romania since the 1981 Summer Universiade that took place in Bucharest. Organization Venues The budget spent for the organization was €1.15 million, while for the construction of the venues came to a total cost of €60 million. Primordial are an Irish extreme metal band from Skerries, County Dublin. The band was formed in 1987 by bassist Pól MacAmhlaigh and guitarist Ciarán MacUiliam. Their sound blends black metal and doom metal with Celtic music. History The band's roots stretch back to 1987 when Pól and Ciarán first began playing together with Pól's brother, Derek. Carach Angren is a Dutch symphonic black metal band, founded in 2003 by two members of the now-defunct bands Inger Indolia and Vaultage.
