Ryan Smith (Ohio Politician)
Ryan Smith (born February 23, 1973) a former Republican member of the Ohio House of Representatives, who served the 93rd District since his appointment in 2012. On June 6, 2018, he was named Speaker of the House. In January 2019, Smith was defeated by Larry Householder for the Speaker's gavel. His district includes all of Gallia and Jackson counties as well as much of Lawrence and Vinton counties. Smith also served as the Chairman of the House Finance Committee, often the most powerful chairmanship in the Ohio House. Life and career Smith graduated from Ohio State University with a B.S. in Finance in 1995. He is a financial consultant, partner and vice president at Smith Financial Advisors of Hilliard Lyons. John Carey (Ohio State Legislator)
John Carey (born April 18, 1959) is an American politician in the Republican Party. He became the Chancellor of the University System of Ohio in 2013. In 2011, he served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 87th District, before resigning at the end of the year. He also was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1995 until 2002, and the Ohio Senate from 2003 to 2010. Career Carey graduated from Wellston High School and attended Ohio University, where he earned a degree in political science. After college, he worked as an aide to U.S. Representative Clarence Miller and served as Mayor of Wellston from 1988 to 1994. Carey defeated incumbent Representative Mark Malone in 1994 to take his first term in the Ohio House of Representatives, and won reelection handily in 1996. James L. Butler Jr. (born May 10, 1973) is a former Republican member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 41st House District, and was Speaker Pro Tempore. Life and career Butler received his bachelor's degree in history with honors and distinction from the United States Naval Academy in 1995, graduating in the top 10% of his class which earned him a spot in flight school. While waiting to begin training he received a master's degree in history from the University of Maryland in 1996. Strahorn (born March 20, 1965) is an American Democratic politician who served in the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 39th District, which consists of much of Dayton, Ohio. Jim Hughes (born September 7, 1964) is a former state representative for the 24th District of the Ohio House of Representatives. He is a Republican. The district consists of portions of Columbus, as well as Grove City, Hilliard, Upper Arlington, and Worthington in Franklin County. Hughes formerly was a member of the Ohio Senate from 2009 to 2016. Andrew Miller Thompson (February 8, 1963 – May 13, 2020) was an American politician who was a Republican member of the Ohio House of Representatives for the 95th district, which includes Carroll, Harrison and Noble counties, and portions of Washington and Belmont counties.
