Ryan McCarthy (U.S. Army)
Ryan D. McCarthy (born 1973 or 1974) is an American business executive and former U.S. Army Ranger who served as the 24th United States Secretary of the Army, from 2019 to 2021. He previously held the office in an acting capacity in 2017 and 2019. Education and military service McCarthy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in history from the Virginia Military Institute. He has a Master of Business Administration degree from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. A former United States Army Ranger, he served in the 75th Ranger Regiment's 3rd Battalion during the United States invasion of Afghanistan. He was later inducted into the U.S. Army Ranger Hall of Fame in 2019. Private sector career Early in his career, McCarthy worked at HSBC.
