Ryan Ghietti (born 22 July 1989) is an Italy international rugby league footballer who plays in the halves or as a hooker for the Northern Pride in the Queensland Cup. Ghietti has represented the Italian national team, most notably as a member of their 2013 and 2017 World Cup squads. Early life Ghietti was born in Innisfail, Queensland, Australia. He played his junior rugby league for the Innisfail Brothers. He is of Italian descent. Playing career Ghietti has represented Italy in the 2013 World Cup qualifying tournament in 2011, the 2013 World Cup, and the 2017 World Cup qualifying tournament in 2016. The 2017 Rugby League World Cup Europe qualification is a rugby league tournament that was held in October 2011 to decide the European qualification for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. It consisted of a round-robin play-off involving four teams; Russia, Italy, Serbia and Lebanon. Both Italy and Lebanon remained unbeaten, recording two wins and a draw each. The 2017 Rugby League World Cup Europe qualification was a rugby league tournament held in October and November 2016 to decide the three European qualifiers for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup. It consisted of a round-robin tournament which saw Wales and Ireland qualify by winning their respective tables. The Italy national rugby league team represents Italy in rugby league football. With origins dating back to the 1950s and 1960s, the team has competed regularly in international competitions since 2008, when their current governing body, the Federazione Italiana Rugby League, was formed.
