Ruud Van Hemert
Ruud van Hemert (29 October 1938 – 5 July 2012) was a Dutch film director known especially for (dark) comedy. In the 1970s he helped produce and direct TV shows on VPRO before starting a career as a film director. Biography Ruud van Hemert was the son of television producer Willy van Hemert, and followed in his father's footsteps, making two television films for the VPRO, ''TV-Eiland'' (1965), and ''Pepijn op wieletjes'' ("a children's film for and about naughty children" conceived by Hans Andreus, followed by a few other children's shows, with Harrie Geelen. A breakthrough was the (stylistically experimental) documentary ''Oranje Vrijstaat'', which had controversial politician Roel van Duijn as a central figure. His career took off when he cooperated with Wim T. ''Trouw'' (; ) is a Dutch daily newspaper appearing in compact size. It was founded in 1943 as an orthodox Protestant underground newspaper during World War II. Since 2009, it has been owned by DPG Media (known as De Persgroep until 2019). ''Trouw'' received the European Newspaper Award in 2012. Cees van der Laan is the current editor-in-chief. History ''Trouw'' is a Dutch word meaning "fidelity", "loyalty", or "allegiance", and is cognate with the English adjective "true". The name was chosen to reflect allegiance and loyalty to God and Country in spite of the German occupation of the Netherlands. Wapserveen
Wapserveen is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Westerveld, and lies about 21 km northwest of Hoogeveen. History The village was first mentioned in 1395 or 1396 as Wasperveen, and means "peat excavation village belonging to Wapse". Wapserveen is a road village near a peat excavation area. It was founded by colonists from Friesland. Large scale excavation did not start until the 17th and 18th century. The Dutch Reformed church dates from 1803, but was built with bricks from its medieval predecessor. A separate bell fry was place on the cemetery around the same time. During the Reformation, the Catholic church became Dutch Reformed and the priest was replaced by the minister Foppius Hilarii in 1606. The villagers preferred the priest, and Hilarii was killed by a farmer. The former priest was given a state pension in 1607 on the condition that he no longer practise and help the minister. Flodder
''Flodder'' is a 1986 Dutch comedy film written and directed by Dick Maas, and distributed by First Floor Features. It is the first film in the Flodder franchise and is followed by two more films and a spin-off series. The film follows an anti-social, dysfunctional family who move to an affluent, upper-class neighbourhood as part of a social experiment which results in mayhem as the Flodder family refuses to adapt. ''Flodder'' absurd humour and politically incorrect satire ridiculing the Dutch welfare state resulted in mixed reviews.
