Rusumo, Rwanda
Rusumo, is a town in Kirehe District in the Eastern Province of Rwanda. Location Rusumo is located in the southern part of Eastern Province, at the international border with Tanzania, approximately , southeast of Rwamagana, the location of the provincial headquarters. This is approximately , by road, southeast of Kigali, the capital and largest city in Rwanda. Overview Rusumo is a border town, sitting at the border with neighboring Tanzania. In January 2015, the completed one-stop border post was opened to the public. Customs and immigration officials from both countries clear travelers once, in the country they are exiting. This cuts down on time spent at the border and allows from more travelers to be processed, with less hassle. Flag Of Rwanda
The national flag of Rwanda is a horizontal tricolour of light blue, yellow, and green, in a 2:1:1 ratio, charged with a golden sun in the upper fly-side corner. It was adopted on 31 December 2001 and replaced the flag adopted shortly before independence. The design of the flag is defined in the Rwandan constitution and regulations regarding the use and manufacture of the flag are outlined in the country's national flag law (law no. 34/2008, and subsequent amendments). Eastern Province, Rwanda
Eastern Province ( in ; ; ) is the largest, the most populous and the least densely populated of Rwanda's five provinces. It was created in early January 2006 as part of a government decentralization program that re-organized the country's local government structures. It has seven districts: Bugesera, Gatsibo, Kayonza, Ngoma, Kirehe, Nyagatare and Rwamagana. The capital city of the Eastern Province is Rwamagana. The five Provinces of Rwanda, provinces of Rwanda are divided into 30 districts (Kinyarwanda: ''uturere'', sing. ''akarere''). Kirehe District
Kirehe is a district (''akarere'') in Eastern Province, Rwanda. Its capital is Kirehe town (which is usually known as Rusumo, being the major settlement of the former Rusumo district). Geography The district comprises areas in the far south-eastern corner of Rwanda, bordering Tanzania and Burundi. Its most noteworthy feature is Rusumo Falls, the waterfall on the Kagera River, which has been key to Rwandan history. Rwamagana
Rwamagana is a city and capital of both the Rwamagana District and the Eastern Province in Rwanda Description Rwamagana lies approximately from Kigali, on the newly renovated road leading east towards Tanzania. There was formerly a large amount of traffic running through the centre, particularly freight to and from Tanzania, but with the recent creation of a bypass, the centre of the city is now quieter. The city lies mainly along two roads, the main east–west route, and a spur leading off to the south. The main market and the Banque de Kigali are on this spur, while the city's two petrol stations, taxi-bus parks and post office are on the east–west road. ''The New Times'' is a national English-language newspaper in Rwanda. It was established in 1995 shortly after the genocide against the Tutsi. Rusumo Falls
Rusumo Falls () is a waterfall located on the Kagera river on the border between Rwanda and Tanzania, part of the most distant headwaters of the river Nile. The falls are approximately high and wide and have formed on Precambrian schists and quartz–phyllites. Although the falls themselves are not of significant height in comparison to other waterfalls, they have played an important part in the history of Rwanda because they form the only bridging point on the river in that area. In history The falls were the scene of the first arrival of Europeans in Rwanda in 1894, when the German count Gustav Adolf von Götzen came across from Tanzania (Rwanda had been considered part of German East Africa since 1885 but no German had yet entered the country). Kagera River
The Kagera River, also known as Akagera River, or Alexandra Nile, is an East African river, forming part of the upper headwaters of the Nile and carrying water from its most distant source.Stanley, H.M., 1899, Through the Dark Continent, London: G.
