Rustic Roads (Wisconsin)
The Rustic Road system is a system of Wisconsin scenic roads. They differ from the main trunkline highway system in that they are not meant to be major through routes, but lightly traveled local access, and are to meet minimum standards for natural features. Rustic roads have lower speed limits than those on other highway systems. Each route is marked by brown and yellow signs, with the route number on a small placard below the sign. The letter "R" prefix is followed by the number designation. Wisconsin is the only state to have a system of rustic roads. Racine County (, sometimes also ) is a county in southeastern Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, its population was 197,727, making it Wisconsin's fifth-most populous county. Its county seat is Racine. The county was founded in 1836, then a part of the Wisconsin Territory. Racine County comprises the Racine metropolitan statistical area. Cleveland is a town in Chippewa County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 864 at the 2010 census. Geography Cleveland is in north-central Chippewa County; the town forms roughly a rectangle, north to south and about east to west, but with the east end cut off by the Chippewa River. History The six-mile squares that would become Cleveland were first surveyed in summer of 1847 by a crew working for the U.S. government. Rusk County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,188. Its county seat is Ladysmith. History Founded in 1901, Rusk County was originally named Gates County after Milwaukee land speculator James L. Gates. It was renamed Rusk County in 1905 after Jeremiah M. Chippewa County, Wisconsin
Chippewa County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It is named for the historic Chippewa people, also known as the Ojibwe, who long controlled this territory. As of the 2020 census, the population was 66,297. Its county seat is Chippewa Falls. The county was founded in 1845 from Crawford County, then in the Wisconsin Territory, and organized in 1853. Chippewa County is included in the Eau Claire, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the Eau Claire- Menomonie, WI Combined Statistical Area. Wind Lake is a census-designated place (CDP) in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,355 at the 2020 census. Wind Lake is in the town of Norway. Geography Wind Lake is located at (42.821952, -88.157810). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.3 square miles (18.8 km), of which, 5.4 square miles (14.0 km) of it is land and 1.8 square miles (4.8 km) of it (25.43%) is water. Wisconsin Highway 36
State Trunk Highway 36 (often called Highway 36, STH-36 or WIS 36) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It runs in a diagonal southwest–northeast direction across southeastern Wisconsin from Springfield which is north of Lake Geneva to Milwaukee. Route description WIS 36 begins at its intersection with WIS 120 and travels in a general northeasterly direction to an intersection with WIS 11 in Burlington. The road continues northeast, passing through Waterford where it connects with WIS 164, then to Wind Lake and Muskego before heading to Franklin, where it runs concurrently with US Highway 45 (US 45) for a short distance, and crosses WIS 100. State Trunk Highway 164 (often called Highway 164, STH-164 or WIS 164) is a Wisconsin state highway running from Slinger, around the city of Waukesha, to Waterford. Route description The southern terminus of Highway 164 is at the intersection of WIS 36 and Racine County Highway K, northeast of Waterford. County Highway K continues to the East towards Racine at WIS 38. Highway 164 swings north on Big Bend Road, through the unincorporated towns of Tichigan and Wind Lake, crossing the Waukesha County line and heading into Big Bend.
