Ruiz-Mateos Group
The Party of Labor and Employment–Ruiz-Mateos Group ( es, Partido del Trabajo y Empleo–Agrupación Ruiz-Mateos), better known as Ruiz-Mateos Group ( es, Agrupación Ruiz-Mateos), was a Spanish political party founded by businessman José María Ruiz-Mateos following the collapse and expropriation of his Rumasa holding company. It was enrolled in the register of political parties with the Spanish Ministry of the Interior on August 30, 1989. The leaders of the party were Ruiz-Mateos, his son in law Carlos Perrau of Pinninck (vice president) and Carmen Lovelle Alen (general secretary). José María Ruiz-Mateos
José María Ruiz-Mateos y Jiménez de Tejada (11 April 1931 – 7 September 2015) was a Spanish businessman and politician. Biography He began by exporting wine to England. As the son of a small sherry producer, he managed to sign a monster contract in 1964, becoming the exclusive supplier to John Harvey & Sons. As this required more sherry wine than his family bodega could supply, he started buying other wineries. At the heart of his wine group was the company Bodegas Internacionales. He founded the conglomerate Rumasa (Ruiz Mateos Sociedad Anónima) and had considerable influence in Spanish society. The group included several banks, hotels, wineries, supermarkets and luxury stores, insurance companies, construction firms... The People's Party ( es, Partido Popular ; known mostly by its acronym, PP ) is a conservative and Christian-democratic political party in Spain. The People's Party was a 1989 re-foundation of People's Alliance (AP), a party led by former minister of the dictatorship Manuel Fraga and founded back in 1976 as alliance of post-Francoist proto-parties. The new party combined the conservative AP with several small Christian democratic and liberal parties (the party call this fusion of views "the Reformist Centre"). The 1989 Spanish general election was held on Sunday, 29 October 1989, to elect the 4th Cortes Generales of the Kingdom of Spain. All 350 seats in the Congress of Deputies were up for election, as well as 208 of 254 seats in the Senate. An election had not been due until 28 July 1990 at latest, but Prime Minister Felipe González called for a snap election nine months ahead of schedule, allegedly on the need of implementing tough economic measures. Felipe González
Felipe González Márquez (; born 5 March 1942) is a Spanish lawyer, professor, and politician, who was the Secretary-General of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) from 1974 to 1997, and the 3rd Prime Minister of Spain since the restoration of democracy, from 1982 to 1996. He remains the longest-serving Prime Minister of Spain to be freely elected. González joined the PSOE in 1964, when it was banned under the Francoist regime.
