Rufus W. Bunnell
Lambert & Bunnell was a long-lived American architectural firm from Bridgeport, Connecticut, in business from 1860 to 1901. It was established by Edward R. Lambert (1834-1904) and Rufus W. Bunnell (1835-1909). Founders and history The founder of the firm, Edward Richard Lambert, was born in February 10, 1834, in Milford to Edward Rodolphus Lambert, a surveyor, and Eliza (Boothe) Lambert. He worked for his father and for Bridgeport architect Albert C. Nash, with whom he studied architecture. Circa 1856, when Nash left for Milwaukee, Lambert opened his own architect's office in Bridgeport. In 1858 he was joined by drafter Rufus W. Bunnell, who had worked alongside Lambert in Nash's office in 1854, though Bunnell would go south soon afterwards. The Southport Historic District in the town of Fairfield, Connecticut is a area historic district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. It preserves a portion of the modern neighborhood and former borough of Southport, Connecticut. Since the British burnt almost all of Southport's structures in 1779, there is only one home built prior to that date, the Meeker House at 824 Harbor Road, which survives. Description The area of the district is bounded on the north by the Metro-North railroad tracks, on the south by the Mill River and Southport Harbor, on the west by Old South Road, and on the east by Rose Hill Road. During 2018, Bridgeport Hospital received professional recognition for geriatric and palliative care, diabetes treatment, human rights and local economic partnership. History In the 1870s, Dr. George Lewis, a physician practicing in the city, persuaded his aunt, Susan Hubbell, to bequeath $13,500 and an acre at the summit of Mill Hill for the construction of a hospital, the first in Fairfield County, and only the third in the state.
