''Rubí'' is a Mexican telenovela produced by José Alberto Castro for Televisa. It is based on a short story by Yolanda Vargas Dulché, published as a serial on the 1960s Mexican comic book ''Lágrimas, Risas y Amor''. It stars Bárbara Mori, Eduardo Santamarina, Jacqueline Bracamontes and Sebastián Rulli. Las Estrellas, Canal de las Estrellas aired ''Rubí'' from May 17 to October 22, 2004, with ''Apuesta por un amor'' replacing it. Univision broadcast ''Rubí'' from September 20, 2004 to March 7, 2005, and has named ''Rubí'' as the top telenovela of all time. Plot Rubí Pérez (Bárbara Mori) is a very beautiful but poor woman who is obsessed with money. A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar drama genres around the world include '' teleserye'' (Philippines), '' téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), and ''sinetron'' (Indonesia). Commonly described using the American colloquialism Spanish soap opera, many telenovelas share some stylistic and thematic similarities to the soap opera familiar to the English-speaking world. The significant difference is their series run length; telenovelas tell one self-contained story, typically within the span of a year or less whereas soap operas tend to have intertwined storylines told during indefinite, continuing runs. ''Ruby'' is an Arab dramatic series, it's a remake of the 2004 Mexican version produced by Televisa and written by Yolanda Vargas Dulche. It was produced in 2012 and aired on MBC1 and Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation. Plot Ruby is a young, ambitious Lebanese woman who falls in love with a Syrian doctor but marries his Egyptian friend who is also her friend's fiancé. Ruby left her Syrian boyfriend simply because his Egyptian friend was a millionaire, and she fell for his money. Therefore, she breaks both her friend's heart and that of her lover. And then she undergoes the consequences of her mistake by committing a series other mistakes. When married to the millionaire, she makes his life miserable.
