Ruairí Convery
Ruairí Convery (born 5 January 1984) is a hurler from Northern Ireland who played as a right wing-forward at senior level for the Derry county team. Convery joined the panel during the 2003 National League and immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen. Since then he has won two Nicky Rackard Cup medals and has ended up as an Ulster runner-up on two occasions. At club level Convery is a one-time county club championship medalist with Swatragh. Swatragh GAC
Michael Davitt's GAC Swatragh ( ga, CLG Míceal Mhic Dhaíbheid Suaitreach) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the village of Swatragh. The club is a member of the Derry GAA and currently caters for Gaelic football, hurling and camogie. The club is named after republican patriot and revolutionary Michael Davitt. Swatragh fields Gaelic football and hurling teams at U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, Minor, Reserve, Thirds and Senior levels. There are also camogie teams across similar age groups. Derry County Hurling Team
The Derry county hurling team represents Derry GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association, in the Gaelic sport of hurling. The team competes in the Christy Ring Cup and the National Hurling League. Derry's home ground is Celtic Park, Derry. The team's managers are Dominic McKinley and Cormac Donnelly. The team last won the Ulster Senior Championship in 2001, but has never won the All-Ireland Senior Championship or the National League. Swatragh
Swatragh () is a small village and townland in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Swatragh is on the main A29 road north of Maghera, and is situated within Mid-Ulster District. The population was 438 in the 2011 Census. The village has three churches: one Roman Catholic, one Church of Ireland, and one Presbyterian. The Catholic and Church of Ireland churches are listed buildings. St John's is the local primary school. Swatragh's name in Irish, ''an Suaitreach'', is derived from a shortened form of ''Baile an tSuaitrigh'' meaning "townland of the billeted soldier". Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. 2003 National Hurling League
The 2003 National Hurling League was the 72nd seasons of the National Hurling League. Division 1 Kilkenny came into the season as defending champions of the 2002 season. Laois entered Division 1 as the promoted team. On 5 May 2003, Kilkenny won the title following a 5–14 to 5–13 win over Tipperary in the final. It was their second league title in succession and their 11th National League title overall. Derry, who lost all of their group stage matches, were relegated from Division 1 after losing all of their matches in the relegation group. Nicky Rackard Cup
The Nicky Rackard Cup (; often referred to as the Rackard Cup) is the fourth tier of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Each year, the champion team in the Nicky Rackard Cup is promoted to the Christy Ring Cup, and the lowest finishing team is relegated to the Lory Meagher Cup. The Nicky Rackard Cup, which was introduced for the 2005 season, is a recent initiative in providing a meaningful championship for third tier teams deemed "too weak" for any higher grades. The winners of the championship receive the Nicky Rackard Cup, named after former Wexford hurler Nicky Rackard regarded as one of the greatest hurlers of all time. Ulster Senior Hurling Championship
The Ulster GAA Hurling Senior Championship, known simply as the Ulster Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Ulster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in the province of Ulster, and has been contested every year since the 1901 championship. The final, usually held in July, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during June, and the results determine which team receives the Liam Harvey Cup. The championship has always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the championship. In 2016, a two-tier format began. Four teams compete in the Ulster Senior Hurling Championship, and four in the Ulster Senior Hurling Shield. Derry Senior Hurling Championship
The Derry Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Derry GAA clubs. The Derry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1887. Slaughtneil are the title holders (2022) defeating Kevin Lynch's in the Final in September 2022 to win their tenth title in a row. Honours The trophy presented to the winners is the Fr Collins Cup.
