Ru'us Al-Jibal
The Musandam Peninsula ( ar, جَزِيْرَة مُسَنْدَم \ رَأْس مُسَنْدَم, Jazīrat Musandam / Raʾs Musandam), locally known as Ruus Al Jibal ( ar, رُؤُوْس ٱلْجِبَال, ''Ruʾūs al-Jibāl'' Heads of the Mountains), is a peninsula that forms the northeastern point of the Arabian Peninsula. It is located to the south of the Strait of Hormuz between the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. It is inhabited by the Shihuh tribe and is mainly governed by Oman as the Musandam Governorate with certain parts governed by the United Arab Emirates, including Ras Al Khaimah and parts of Dibba. Climate, geology and geography Land features include the Western Hajar Mountains. Khasab
Khasab ( ar, خَصَب, Ḫaṣab) is a city and local capital of the Musandam Governorate which is an exclave of Oman bordering the United Arab Emirates at the tip of the Musandam Peninsula by the Strait of Hormuz. It has been dubbed the "Norway of Arabia" because of its extensive fjord-like craggy inlets and desolate mountainscapes. Khasab is a small city when compared to nearby cities of the United Arab Emirates. It has many residents who mostly live in mainland Oman and come to Khasab for vacations. There is a huge population of Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis, like in mainland Oman, who work in restaurants, grocery stores, supermarkets, tour operators and many other places. The city is surrounded by the northern mountains of the Western Hajar Range. Khasab has a fully functional hospital and several hotels, beaches and parks across the city. Wadi Bih
Wadi Bih, alternatively Wādī Al-Bayḥ ( ar, وَادِي ٱلْبَيْح), is a river/wadi that crosses the North-Western Hajar Mountains from the United Arab Emirates, and traversing Oman before returning to the UAE. From the West to the East, it originates in Ras Al Khaimah on the Gulf, before crossing the Omani exclave at the tip of the Musandam Peninsula, past the village of Zighi and into Fujairah at Dibba Al-Hisn, on the Gulf of Oman. The wadi is a popular location for birdwatchers. Access to Wadi Bih requires a GCC or Omani passport. Residents of the UAE and Oman holding other passports may find access restricted or blocked. Wadi Bih Run The popular Wadi Bih ultramarathon takes place each year on the Musandam Peninsula in Oman on the first weekend of February. Arabian Tahr
The Arabian tahr (''Arabitragus jayakari'') is a species of tahr native to eastern Arabia. Until recently, it was placed in the genus '' Hemitragus'', but genetic evidence supports its removal to a separate monotypic genus, ''Arabitragus''. The Arabian tahr is the smallest species of tahr. The animal is of stocky build with backward-arching horns in both sexes. Males are much more robust than females. Their coats consist of a long, reddish-brown hair, with a dark stripe running down the back. Males possess the most impressive manes which extend right down the back and grow longer, based on the age. In the oldest males the muzzle darkens to black and the eye stripes also darken. As with most mountain goats and sheep, they have rubber-like hooves to provide balance and traction on the steep, rocky slopes. The Ruus al Jibal fan-footed gecko (''Ptyodactylus ruusaljibalicus'') is a species of gecko. Kumzar
Kumzār ( ar, كُمْزَار), also written as Kumza, is a village located in Musandam, the northernmost province of Oman. It is the second most northerly inhabited part of the country, and the most northerly inhabited part on its mainland, located on the Strait of Hormuz. The village is isolated and only accessible by boat. Kumzar has been inhabited for approximately 500 years, although exact records are difficult. Early Portuguese maps of the area highlight a settlement in the area. The isolated location of the village has harboured a separate language, Kumzari. The Kumzaris religious practice is based in Islam but with traditional folk values. The culture is distinct from the Arabic settlements in the area. Fishing is the dominant source of income, tuna and sardines being the major catch. Most families have two houses, one in Kumzar and the second in Khasab. ''Gulf News'' is a daily English language newspaper published from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It was first launched in 1978, and is currently distributed throughout the UAE and also in other Persian Gulf Countries. Its online edition was launched in 1996. Jebel Al Mebrah
Jabal Al-Mebraḥ (), also commonly mistakenly referred to by the name of the nearby peak ''Jabal Yibir'' ( ar, جَبَل يِبِر, links=no), is a tall mountain in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Description Located in the Western Hajar Mountains, sitting wholly within the UAE, it has a prominence of around from its parent peak, Jebel Qihwi, which is on the other side of the border in Musandam Governorate, Oman. The peak sits within a larger raised massif, which has a gradual incline in general, however due to the steep sided wadis carving into its sides, and many faults and bulges in the landscape, it has many unnavigable sections surrounding the summit. Jebel Jais
Jebel Jais ( ar, جَبَل جَيْس, Jabal Jays) is a mountain of the Ru'us al-Jibal, North-Western Hajar Mountains, Western Hajar range in the Musandam Governorate of Oman and also in Ras al Khaimah, Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.
