The Royle Family
''The Royle Family'' is a British sitcom produced by Granada Television for the BBC, which ran for three series from 1998 to 2000, and specials from 2006 to 2012. It centres on the lives of a television-fixated Manchester family, the Royles, comprising family patriarch Jim Royle (Ricky Tomlinson), his wife Barbara (Sue Johnston), their daughter Denise (Caroline Aherne), their son Antony (Ralf Little) and Denise's fiancé (later husband) David (Craig Cash). The series features simple production values and a comic portrayal of working-class family life at the turn of the millennium. It therefore has something in common with kitchen sink drama. Almost all of the episodes take place in the Royles' home, largely in the telly-centric living room, with the humour derived from the conversations held therein. Joe Royle
Joseph Royle (born 8 April 1949) is an English football manager and former footballer. In his playing career as a striker, he debuted for Everton at the age of 16 and went on to play for Manchester City, Bristol City, Norwich City, and the England national team. Later, he managed Oldham Athletic, Everton, Manchester City, and Ipswich Town. He is currently a director at Oldham Athletic. Stanley Royle RBA, (1888–1961) was an English post-impressionist landscape painter and illustrator who lived for most of his life in and around Sheffield (England), and in Canada, and was inspired by views of landscape, sea and snow. Early life and career Royle was born at Stalybridge, Cheshire and in 1904, began studying at the Sheffield Technical School of Art. Joseph Royle
Joseph Royle (1732 – January 26, 1766) was an English-born American newspaper publisher and printer who lived in the British colony of Virginia. He was a journeyman who apprenticed under Virginia's printer of public record, William Hunter. He became the foreman in the print shop and upon the death of Hunter, Royle took over his position, a prestigious job of producing all the colony's legal documents. He also published the ''Virginia Gazette'' newspaper, which had been started by William Parks. Royle tended to publish articles that favored the colonial government over opposing viewpoints. Royle lived in Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia and became the postmaster of its post office. Royle owned a number of slaves, who did household chores and worked in his print shop. John Forbes Royle (10 May 1798 – 2 January 1858), British botanist and teacher of materia medica, was born in Kanpur (then Cawnpore) in 1798. He was in charge of the botanical garden at Saharanpur and played a role in the development of economic botany in India.
