Royal University Of Fine Arts
The Royal University of Fine Arts (RUFA; ; french: Université royale des beaux-arts) is a university in Chey Chumneas, Phnom Penh specialising in architecture and fine arts. It is the oldest university in Cambodia, having been in existence since 1917. The establishment of the Royal University of Fine Arts dates back to 1917. At the time, the Khmer Arts School was established inside the Royal Palace. Later, because the courtyard inside the Royal Palace was too small, King Sisowath tasked the French artist George Grolier, as well as seven other Cambodian artists, with establishing a new Fine Arts School situated at the present-day site of the Royal University of Fine Arts. Royal Palace Of Cambodia
The Royal Palace of Cambodia ( km, ព្រះបរមរាជវាំង) is a complex of buildings which serves as the royal residence of the King of Cambodia. Its full name in Khmer is the ''Preah Barom Reacheaveang Chaktomuk Serey Mongkol'' ( km, ព្រះបរមរាជវាំងចតុមុខសិរីមង្គល, link=no).The Cambodian monarchs have occupied it since it was built in the 1860s, with a period of absence when the country came into turmoil during and after the reign of the Khmer Rouge. Nuon Kan
Nuon Kan was a Khmer people, Cambodian writer, composer, and professor of music and performing arts, who escaped the Cambodian genocide, which annihilated most of the musicians and scholars of his generation. He is the author of a popular patriotic hymn entitled the ''History of Khmer People''. Biography Nuon Kan was born on June 18, 1937, in Sangkat 4, Phnom Penh. He joined the Cambodian Writers' Association in 1958. With a scholarship from the The Asia Foundation, Asia Foundation, he went to study performing arts and directing in France, where he studied under the guidance of Pierre Valde from 1961 to 1965. Khmer Rouge
The Khmer Rouge (; ; km, ខ្មែរក្រហម, ; ) is the name that was popularly given to members of the Communist Party of Kampuchea (CPK) and by extension to the regime through which the CPK ruled Cambodia between 1975 and 1979. The name was coined in the 1960s by then Chief of State Norodom Sihanouk to describe his country's heterogeneous, communist-led dissidents, with whom he allied after his 1970 overthrow. King Sisowath
Sisowath ( km, ស៊ីសុវត្ថិ, ; 7 September 1840 – 9 August 1927) was King of Cambodia from 27 April 1904 to his death in 1927. He was the son of King Ang Duong and half brother of Prince Si Votha and King Norodom. He is the progenitor of the House of Sisowath. Life Sisowath was given the birth name of "Ang Sar" (). When he was born, Cambodia was under joint Siamese and Vietnamese rule. The royal family lived in Battambang then under Siamese hegemony. Like his brother King Norodom, Sisowath was educated in the Siamese capital of Bangkok. He did not return to his native Cambodia until 1860, when his father and the ruling monarch, Ang Duong, died. Phnom Penh
