Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation
The Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation ( ar, الجامعة الملكية للتنس, often shortened as FRMT for its French acronym ''Fédération Royale Marocaine de Tennis'') is the national governing body of Tennis in Morocco. It was founded in 1957. It is currently presided by Fayçal Laraichi, a close collaborator of Mohammed VI and the chairman of the state-owned television and radio SNRT. Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball validly will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. The sport can be played by anyone who can hold a racket, including wheelchair users. The modern game of tennis originated in Birmingham, England, in the late 19th century as lawn tennis. Mohammed VI ( ar, محمد السادس; born 21 August 1963) is the King of Morocco. He belongs to the 'Alawi dynasty and acceded to the throne on 23 July 1999, upon the death of his father, King Hassan II. Upon ascending to the throne, Mohammed initially introduced a number of reforms and changed the family code, ''Mudawana'', granting women more power. Leaked diplomatic cables from WikiLeaks in 2010 led to allegations of corruption in the court of Mohammed, implicating him and his closest advisors. The National Company of Radio and Television ( ar, الشَرِكَة الوَطَنِيَّة لِلْإِذَاعَة وَالتَلْفَزَة, ''; french: Société nationale de radiodiffusion et de télévision, SNRT''; , ') is the public broadcaster of Morocco. History It was formerly called Moroccan Radio and Television (RTM) from 1956 and Radiodiffusion-Télévision Marocaine (RTM) from 1961. Radio-Maroc was one of the founding members of the European Broadcasting Union in 1950 and continued as an active member until 1 January 1961 when RTM changed its affiliation to associate membership. Mohamed Mjid
Mohamed Mjid ( ar, محمد امجيد1916–20 March 2014) was a Moroccan politician and president of the Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation. Life In his youth Mohamed Mjid was a militant in the national movement for the independence of Morocco, activities for which he was arrested and imprisoned. After the independence he became active in politics and NGOs. In 1964 he was appointed as the president of the Tennis Federation, a position he held until 2009. He was also elected as an MP for Safi, as part of the National Rally of Independents. On 20 March 2014, Mjid died in a hospital in Rabat and was buried in Casablanca.
