Royal Liverpool University Hospital
The Royal Liverpool University Hospital (RLUH) is a major teaching and research hospital located in the city of Liverpool, England. It is the largest and busiest hospital in Merseyside and Cheshire, and has the largest emergency department of its kind in the UK. A major redevelopment of the hospital began in 2013 and was scheduled for completion in 2017, but construction problems and the 2018 collapse of main contractor Carillion pushed the estimated completion date back to the autumn of 2022. Alongside Broadgreen Hospital and Liverpool University Dental Hospital, the hospital is managed by the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is associated with the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. William Holford, Baron Holford
William Graham Holford, Baron Holford, (22 March 1907 – 17 October 1975) was a British architect and town planner. Biography Holford was educated at Diocesan College, Cape Town and returned to Johannesburg. From 1925–30 he studied architecture at the University of Liverpool, where he won the British Prix de Rome in Architecture to the British School at Rome in 1930. While in Rome he met British mural painter Marjorie Brooks, who had independently won the British Prix de Rome for Painting, and married her in 1933. He was a lecturer at the University of Liverpool from 1933 and succeeded Patrick Abercrombie as Professor of Civic Design there in 1937. In 1948 he again succeeded Abercrombie as Professor of Town Planning at University College, London; a post he held until he retired in 1970. Royal Southern Hospital
The Royal Southern Hospital was located in Caryl Street, Liverpool. It was established in 1842 and closed in 1978. History The hospital had its origins in the Southern and Toxteth Hospital in Greenland Street which opened in January 1842. A concert given by Jenny Lind allowed an extra floor to be added to the building in the 1850s, shortly before it became the Southern Hospital in 1857. David Lewis Northern Hospital
The David Lewis Northern Hospital was located in Great Howard Street, Liverpool. It was first established in 1834 and closed in 1978. History The hospital had its origins in a facility which was established in Leeds Street to deal with victims of accidents and emergencies in the dock area and which opened as the Northern Hospital in March 1834. It moved to a purpose-built hospital, designed by Edward Welch, in Great Howard Street in September 1845. The Liverpool Royal Infirmary was a hospital in Pembroke Place in Liverpool, England. The building is now used by the University of Liverpool. History The infirmary has its origins in a small building on Shaw's Brow which was opened by the 11th Earl of Derby on part of the site which is now occupied by St George's Hall on 25 March 1749. The second incarnation of the infirmary was designed by John Foster in the Greek Revival style and opened on Brownlow Hill in September 1824.
