Day 1 (building)
Day 1, also known as Amazon Tower II and Rufus 2.0 Block 19, is a office building in the Denny Triangle neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, located at the intersection of Lenora Street and 7th Avenue. It is part of the three-tower complex that serves as the headquarters of Amazon. The name "Day 1" previously belonged to two buildings on Amazon's South Lake Union campus, but both structures have since been renamed. The building's east facade features a large sign reading "Hello World". The construction project was the most expensive in the city to finish in 2016 amidst the recent downtown housing boom. The building also houses the prototype Amazon Go location, which opened to a private beta in December 2016 and to the general public on January 22, 2018. Doppler (building)
Doppler (also known as Amazon Tower I and Rufus 2.0 Block 14) is a office building in Seattle, Washington, United States, that is home to the corporate headquarters of Amazon. It is located in the Denny Triangle neighborhood of the city, at the intersection of Westlake Avenue and 7th Avenue near the Westlake Center and McGraw Square. Doppler is part of the three-tower campus that Amazon is developing in the area and is able to house 3,800 employees. The tower takes its name from the internal codename of the Amazon Echo voice-controlled speaker, which launched in 2014. Amazon Spheres
The Amazon Spheres are three spherical conservatory (greenhouse), conservatories comprising part of the Amazon (company), Amazon headquarters campus in Seattle, Washington, United States. Designed by NBBJ and landscape firm Site Workshop, its three glass domes are covered in pentagonal hexecontahedron panels and serve as an employee lounge and workspace. The spheres, which range from three to four stories tall, house 40,000 plants, as well as meeting space and retail stores. They are located adjoining the Day 1 (building), Day 1 building on Lenora Street. The complex opened to Amazon employees and limited public access on January 30, 2018. Floyd Naramore
Floyd Archibald Naramore (July 21, 1879 in Warren, Illinois – October 29, 1970 in Seattle) was a Seattle architect. He was Seattle Schools Architect from 1919 to 1932, and he was a founding partner, in 1943, of the firm that today is known as NBBJ. Naramore studied engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He subsequently took a job as a drafter with the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company (C&NWRR) from 1900 to 1903, then worked with architect George Fuller on a C&NWRR office building for two years. He returned to school and earned an architectural degree at MIT in 1907. After a brief stint in Chicago, Naramore moved to Portland, Oregon, where he worked for Northwest Bridgeworks from 1909 to 1912 as a cost estimator. Clifton Brady
Clifton Brady (16 October 1894 – 9 June 1963) was a Seattle architect and one of the founders of the American architectural firm NBBJ. Brady was born in Walker, Iowa. He earned his B.Arch. in 1917 from Iowa State College (now Iowa State University), then served in the United States Army for two years. He moved to Seattle in 1927 and was employed by Floyd Naramore as an Associate from 1927 to 1933 and from 1938 to 1941; in 1941 they formed the partnership Naramore and Brady. In 1943 Naramore and Brady joined with William J. Bain and Perry Johanson to form Naramore, Bain, Brady and Johanson (sometimes called "the Combine") to undertake war-related work such as defense plants, housing and hospitals. The partnership worked well and the four partners continued it after 1945—the successor firm is today known as NBBJ. Perry Johanson
Perry Johanson (9 May 1910 in Greeley, Colorado – 15 June 1981 in Seattle) was a Seattle architect and one of the founders of the architectural firm NBBJ. Johanson enrolled in the architecture program at the University of Washington in 1929 and graduated in 1934 with a B.Arch. While in school he was particularly influenced by Lionel Pries. Johanson was initially employed by the Seattle firm Smith & Carroll, but within two years he was a partner in the firm, renamed Smith, Carroll & Johanson; the firm survived until 1951. In 1943, during World War II, he joined with Floyd Naramore, William J. Bain, and Clifton Brady to form Naramore, Bain, Brady & Johanson (informally known as "The Combine" at the time) to undertake war-related projects such as reinforcing architecture.
