Royal College Choir
The Royal College Choir is one of the oldest college choirs in Sri Lanka. Established formally as the choir of Royal College Colombo in 1955, it could trace its roots far beyond and has a history of over 90 years. History The Royal College Choir traces its roots to its origins as a church choir at St. Paul's Chapel in the mid 19th century. In 1919 the Royal College Music Society (now the Western Music Society) was formed under of Major H.L. Reed, MC the Principle of Royal College. The choir formed by the society under the guidance of Mrs. H. L. Reed and R. C. Edwards, won the ''Meaden Shield'' in the 1920. The formal Royal College Choir was established in 1955 which continues to this day. Choir
A choir ( ; also known as a chorale or chorus) is a musical ensemble of singers. Choral music, in turn, is the music written specifically for such an ensemble to perform. Choirs may perform music from the classical music repertoire, which spans from the medieval era to the present, or popular music repertoire. Most choirs are led by a conductor, who leads the performances with arm, hand, and facial gestures. Royal College Colombo
Royal College, Colombo is a selective entry boys' school located in Cinnamon Gardens, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Started as a private school by Rev Joseph Marsh in 1835, it was established as the Colombo Academy by Sir Robert Wilmot-Horton in January 1836, as part of the implementation of the recommendations of the Colebrooke Cameron Commission (1833), and was the first government-run secondary school for boys in the island. Royal College is the first public school in Sri Lanka and is often referred to as the "Eton of Sri Lanka". The school was founded in the British public school tradition, based on the recommendations of the Colebrooke Cameron Commission (1833), and having been named the Royal College, Colombo in 1881 with consent from Queen Victoria, it became the first school to gain the prefix, "Royal", outside of the British Isles and it was one of the first schools to be designated as a national school by the Sri Lankan Government in the 1980s. Dilup Gabadamudalige
Kala Suri Diliup Gabadamudalige is a Sri Lankan pianist, keyboardist, composer, lyricist and producer. He is the pioneer in Computer/MIDI Music in Sri Lanka. Educated at Royal College, Colombo, where he was a pioneer member of the Royal College Band. A prize winner in Piano from the Trinity College of Music, he was the leader of the Junior Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka. However in 1979 he joined Air Lanka as an aircraft technician and underwent training at the Air Force Academy, China Bay, Trincomalee and went on to work as an Aircraft Technician at the Colombo Airport in Katunayake until he left the field in 1985 to take up full-time music. He was the Music Director of Young Asia Television (YA TV) from its inception till December 2003 and pioneered the Institute of Computer Music Technology in 2002. Ranidu Lankage
Ranidu Lankage (Sinhala language, Sinhala:රනිදු ලංකාගේ) is a Sinhala language, Sinhalese R&B and hip hop artist who raised the international profile of Sinhalese RnB/pop.Weerasuriya, Sanath.
