Royal Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, is a 13-storey office tower in the heart of Halifax's financial district. Description The Royal Centre was built in 1960 and was the regional head office of the Royal Bank of Canada (until it moved to the RBC Waterside Centre in 2014), located on 5161 George Street between Granville and Hollis Streets across from the Provincial Legislature Building. This building does not violate the bylaw banning the construction of any building visible from inside Citadel Hill (Fort George). The RBC Waterside Centre is a commercial development in the Downtown Halifax, downtown core of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada built by local real estate developer Armour Group. The project involves demolishing six heritage buildings and replacing them with a nine storey retail and office building, clad at ground level with the reconstructed facades of most of the former heritage buildings. Citadel Hill (Fort George)
Citadel Hill is a hill that is a National Historic Site in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Four fortifications have been constructed on Citadel Hill since the city was founded by the English in 1749, and were referred to as Fort George—but only the third fort (built between 1794 and 1800) was officially named Fort George. According to General Orders of October 20, 1798, it was named after King George III. The first two and the fourth and current fort, were officially called the Halifax Citadel. The last is a concrete star fort. The Citadel is the fortified summit of Citadel Hill. The hill was first fortified in 1749, the year that Edward Cornwallis oversaw the development of the town of Halifax.
