The Route nationale 8, or ''RN 8'', was a trunk road ( nationale) in southeast France between Aix-en-Provence and Toulon. Reclassification In a recent reorganisation of the French road network (2005) the RN8 has been downgraded and re-numbered as the RD8n in Bouches-du-Rhône and RDN8 in Var. Route Aix-en-Provence to Marseille (0 km to 23 km) The road begins at a junction with the RN 7 in Aix as the Avenue Pierre Brossolette and heads South crossing the A8 autoroute as well as the A51 autoroute heading towards the ''Chaine de l'Étoile'' (670 m). The road crosses the A7 autoroute before entering the north west suburbs of Marseille reaching the water front in the city centre. A ''route nationale'', or simply ''nationale'', is a class of trunk road in France. They are important roads of national significance which cross broad portions of the French territory, in contrast to departmental or communal roads which serve more limited local areas. Their use is free, except when crossing certain structures subject to a toll. They are open to all vehicles, except on certain sections having motorway ('' autoroute'') or express road (''voie express'') status, both of these categories being reserved for motorized vehicles only. France at one time had some 30,500 km of ''routes nationales'' and publicly owned motorways, but this figure has decreased with the transfer of the responsibility for many routes to the '' départements'' so that by 2010 the total length of motorways and other national roads was around 21,100 km. The Route nationale 7, or ''RN 7'', is a trunk road ( nationale) in France between Paris and the border with Italy. It was also known as ''Route des vacances'' (The Holiday Route), ''Route bleue'' (The Blue Route), and — sarcastically, during the annual rush to the Mediterranean beaches — the ''Route de la mort'' (Road of Death). The A8 autoroute, also known as La Provençale, is a -long highway in France that runs between Aix-en-Provence and the A7 to the Côte d'Azur. Route The A8 is an extension of the A7 starting to the west of Aix-en-Provence at La Fare-les-Oliviers. The road passes through the Departments of Bouches-du-Rhône, Var and Alpes-Maritimes. A51 Autoroute
The A51 autoroute is a partly completed motorway in southeast France. It is the long-term project to connect Marseille to Grenoble via Aix-en-Provence, the Durance Valley and the Hautes-Alpes department. Route The motorway passes the cities of Aix-en-Provence, Pertuis, Manosque, Sisteron and then Digne-les-Bains and Tallard. A50 Autoroute
300px, right The A50 autoroute is a French motorway connecting Marseille to Toulon. The motorway is 65 km and has a mixture of 2x2 and 2x3 lanes that run through mountainous coastal terrain along the Mediterranean. As such, it has some relatively sharp turns and steep gradients by French motorway standards, and some sections have a reduced speed limit of 110 km/h. The first section between Marseille and Aubagne was opened in 1962 and was until 1963 part of the A52 autoroute until it was renumbered after the surrounding motorways were constructed. Most of the remainder between Aubagne and Toulon was completed by 1975.
