Route 744 is located entirely within the city limits of Springfield, in the U.S. state of Missouri, where it is known locally as Kearney Street. Its western terminus is at the Springfield–Branson National Airport. Its eastern terminus is at Interstate 44 (I-44). The section east of Glenstone Avenue ( Business Loop 44) is part of historic U.S. Route 66 (US 66). The section between Glenstone and West Bypass ( US 160) was a part of US 66 Bypass. Route 744 was numbered after nearby I-44. Springfield–Branson National Airport
Springfield–Branson National Airport (formerly Springfield–Greene County Airport, Springfield Municipal Airport, and Springfield–Branson Regional Airport) is northwest of Springfield, Missouri, in Greene County, United States. The airport has non-stop flights to fifteen U.S. cities. History The airport opened as the Springfield–Greene County Airport on July 2, 1945, following bond issues of $350,000 in 1942 and $150,000 in 1945 to build the airport. It replaced the Springfield Park and Airport on East Division Street (which now operates as Downtown Airport). Springfield Park was the former McCluer Flying Field, which opened in 1925 and was purchased by the city in 1928; it had scheduled service by American Airlines and Transcontinental and Western. Interstate 44 In Missouri
Interstate 44 (I-44) in the US state of Missouri runs northeast from the Oklahoma state line near Joplin to I-70 in Downtown St. Louis. It runs for about in the state, and is the longest Interstate Highway in the state. Route description I-44 enters Missouri in Newton County at the eastern terminus of the Will Rogers Turnpike, south of the Kansas state line. The first interchange in Missouri is the eastern terminus of both U.S. Route 166 (US 166) and US 400. This highway next goes through southern Joplin and then begins to run concurrently with I-49/ US 71 at exit 11 just after entering Jasper County.
