Route 33 is a , secondary north–south state highway in the U.S. state of Connecticut, from Westport to Ridgefield. Route description Route 33 begins at an intersection with Route 136 and I-95 in Westport. It heads north, intersecting with US 1, Route 57, and Merritt Parkway ( Route 15) before crossing into Norwalk. Route 33 barely crosses the northeastern corner of Norwalk before continuing into Wilton. Where it passes through the Wilton Center Historic District. In Wilton, Route 33 heads northwest, crossing Route 53 before joining US 7 and Route 106, in that order, to form a triple concurrency. Route 106 leaves the concurrency shortly after joining, and US 7 and Route 33 continue northwest for approximately another mile before US 7 turns off to the north. The ''Hartford Courant'' is the largest daily newspaper in the U.S. state of Connecticut, and is considered to be the oldest continuously published newspaper in the United States. Connecticut Route 106
Route 106 is a state highway in southwestern Connecticut, running from Stamford to Wilton. Route description Route 106 begins at a junction with I-95 (exit 9) and US 1 in the East Side of Stamford as Courtland Avenue then turning right on Glenbrook Road. It runs parallel to the New Canaan Line of the Metro-North Railroad, heading northeast through the northwest edge of Darien into the center of New Canaan. In Darien, the road is known as Hoyt Street. Upon entering the town of New Canaan, the road changes name to Old Stamford Road, where it has an interchange with the Merritt Parkway (at exit 36) as it heads into downtown New Canaan where it becomes Bank Street. It then continues north, briefly overlapping Route 124 for then heads eastward as East Avenue and Silvermine Road into the town of Wilton. Wilton Station (Metro-North)
Wilton station is a commuter rail station on the Danbury Branch of the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line, located in Wilton, Connecticut. It's one of 2 rail stations located within the town of Wilton. The station first opened in 1852 and is the most used station on the Danbury Branch by weekday passengers. History Wilton station opened in 1852 alongside Cannondale station, Georgetown station, and Kent station on the Danbury and Norwalk Railroad. The original station house was replaced in 1939 by the current one. The original station was moved north to the nearby property of Charles Dana in 1941. Following the death of Dana in 1968, the town acquired the Dana property. However, the original station had fallen into advanced disrepair, and after almost being demolished in 1974, the original station house was moved to Lambert Corners in 1978., where it remains today. Concurrency (road)
A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Concurrent numbering can become very common in jurisdictions that allow it. Where multiple routes must pass between a single mountain crossing or over a bridge, or through a major city, it is often economically and practically advantageous for them all to be accommodated on a single physical roadway. Boston Post Road
The Boston Post Road was a system of mail-delivery routes between New York City and Boston, Massachusetts that evolved into one of the first major highways in the United States. The three major alignments were the Lower Post Road (now U.S. Route 1 (US 1) along the shore via Providence, Rhode Island), the Upper Post Road (now US 5 and US 20 from New Haven, Connecticut by way of Springfield, Massachusetts), and the Middle Post Road (which diverged from the Upper Road in Hartford, Connecticut and ran northeastward to Boston via Pomfret, Connecticut). In some towns, the area near the Boston Post Road has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places, since it was often the first road in the area, and some buildings of historical significance were built along it. Connecticut Turnpike
The Connecticut Turnpike (officially the Governor John Davis Lodge Turnpike) is a controlled-access highway and former toll road in the U.S. state of Connecticut; it is maintained by the Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT). Spanning approximately along a generally west–east axis, its roadbed is shared with Interstate 95 (I-95) for from the New York state border in Greenwich to East Lyme; I-395 for from East Lyme to Plainfield; and State Road 695 (SR 695) for from Plainfield to the Rhode Island state line at U.S. Route 6 (US 6) in Killingly. Route 116 is a state highway entirely within Ridgefield, Connecticut that runs from the Ridgefield town center at Route 35 to the New York state line, where New York State Route 116 continues towards the hamlet of North Salem. Route 35 is a state highway in Connecticut, located entirely within the town of Ridgefield, Fairfield County. Route 35 starts at the New York state line, where the road continues as New York State Route 35, and ends at U.S. Route 7. The road is often used as an alternative to the congested Route 7.
