Route 146 Historic District
The Route 146 Historic District encompasses a historic streetscape in Branford and Guilford, Connecticut. Extending along Connecticut Route 146 between Flat Rock Road in Branford and the West River bridge in Guilford, it includes two centuries of rural residential architecture, and a well-preserved pre-World War II street layout created as a "state assistance road" in the 1920s. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Description and history What is now Connecticut Route 146 in Branford and Guilford was originally laid out in the early 18th century, and the surrounding area developed into the early 19th century as a scattered collection of farmsteads. The railroad which now roughly parallels its route along this stretch, crossing it twice, was opened in 1852, but development remained slow and predominantly agricultural. Route 146 is a state road that serves as a scenic alternative to US 1 between Branford and Guilford in the U.S. state of Connecticut. Route 146 is long, with in Branford and in Guilford. Route description Route 146 begins in Branford as Main Street, splitting off from West Main Street (US 1) just east of the connector road to I-95 at Exit 53. It heads east towards Branford Center and shifts to South Main Street as it passes behind the Branford Green. At the end of the street, Route 146 turns south onto Montowese Street, becoming South Montowese Street and Sybil Avenue as it proceeds southward towards the Indian Neck section of the town at the shore of Long Island Sound. The road then bears east along the shore as Limewood Avenue, Hotchkiss Grove Road, Elizabeth Street, and Pine Orchard Road, heading into the Pine Orchard section of town. Guilford is a town in New Haven County, Connecticut, United States, that borders Madison, Branford, North Branford and Durham, and is situated on I-95 and the Connecticut seacoast. John Rogers House (Branford, Connecticut)
The John Rogers House is a historic house at 690 Leete's Island Road in Branford, Connecticut, United States. It is a -story wood-frame structure, five bays wide, with a side-gable roof, a large central chimney, and a center entry sheltered by a bracketed hood. Long thought to have been built c. 1810, it has been carefully researched to date to the middle 18th century, belonging for many years to the locally prominent Rogers family. Pelatiah Leete House
The Pelatiah Leete House is a historic house at 575 Leete's Island Road in Guilford, Connecticut, United States. Built in 1710 by Pelatiah Leete, it is the oldest surviving house associated with the locally prominent Leete family, who were among the founders of the New Haven Colony. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
