Rossendale General Hospital
Rossendale General Hospital was an acute general hospital at Rawtenstall in Lancashire. It was managed by the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. History The hospital has its origins in an infirmary established to support Haslingden Workhouse in 1912. This infirmary was initially known as the Moorlands Infirmary and, after it had taken over the old workhouse, it became Moorlands Public Assistance Infirmary in 1945. It was renamed Rossendale General Hospital on joining the National Health Service in 1948. After services moved to the new Rossendale Primary Healthcare Centre, the hospital closed in September 2010. East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is an NHS hospital trust in Lancashire, England. It was established on 1 September 2002, as the result of a locally controversial, cost saving merger of Blackburn Hyndburn & Ribble Valley NHS Trust and Burnley Health Care NHS Trust, first announced in September 1999. Shazad Sarwar was appointed chair in 2022. He was Deputy Chair of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and has held many non-executive roles. Rawtenstall
Rawtenstall () is a town in the borough of Rossendale, Lancashire, England. The town lies 15 miles/24 km north of Manchester, 22 miles/35 km east of Preston and 45 miles/70 km south east of the county town of Lancaster. The town is at the centre of the Rossendale Valley. It had a population of 23,000. Toponym The name Rawtenstall has been given two possible interpretations. The older is a combination of the Middle English ''routen'' ('to roar or bellow'), from the Old Norse ''rauta'' and the Old English stall 'pool in a river' (Ekwall 1922, 92).
