Roskilde Municipality
Roskilde municipality ( da, Roskilde kommune) is a municipality in Region Sjælland, 30 km west of Copenhagen on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in east Denmark. The biggest city is Roskilde, the municipality covers an area of 212 km², and it has a total population of around 90,000 (2022). Its current mayor is Tomas Breddam. He is a member of Socialdemokraterne. Neighboring municipalities are Egedal to the northeast, Greve and Solrød to the southeast, Høje-Taastrup to the east, Køge to the south and Lejre to the west. To the north-west is Roskilde Fjord. Roskilde University is located in the municipality. By January 1, 2007 the former Roskilde municipality was merged with Gundsø and Ramsø municipalities into the current one, as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007). Greve Municipality
Greve Municipality is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') about 21 km south-west of Copenhagen in Region Sjælland on the east coast of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 60 km², and has a total population of 47,773 (2008). The site of its municipal council is the town of Greve Strand. It serves primarily as a residential municipality, functioning as a suburb for the larger Copenhagen area. Gundsømagle
Gundsømagle is a town located two kilometres east of Jyllinge and Roskilde Fjord in the northern part of Roskilde Municipality, approximately 40 kilometres west of Copenhagen, Denmark. History Gundsømagle is mentioned (as Guthensø; 1376 ''Gundesiø maklæ'') in a letter from Bishop Absalon where he grants the village to Æbeæholt Abbey which was founded on the small island of Eskilsø in Roskilde Fjord. A this point it consisted of four farms. When the monastery moved to its new home in North Zealand, it kept some of its old holdings. The largest farm in the village, Gundsøgård, came under Bidstrup in 1300. It was confiscated by the Crown in connection with the Reformation and the land was sold off in lots to private buyers in 1670. In 1792, Gundsømagle consisted of 34 farms. Svogerslev
Svogerslev is a small satellite town located four kilometres west of Roskilde, Denmark. The original village features a village pond, a Romanesque church, one of the smallest in Denmark, and a number of old farm buildings. The historic centre is surrounded by large developments of single family detached homes. As of 1 January 2022, it had a population of 4,267. History The name Svogerslev is mentioned in 1257 as ''Suauerslef'', derived from the old male name Swawar and the suffix -lev. Svogerslev Inn opened some time during the 17th century. Viby, Roskilde Municipality
Viby, often referred to as Viby Sjælland (usually styled Viby Sj) to distinguish it from Viby J in Jutland, is a satellite and commuter town to Roskilde and Copenhagen, located 8 km south of Roskilde, in Roskilde Municipality, some 30 km west of Copenhagen, Denmark. Jyllinge
Jyllinge is a town located on the eastern shores of Roskilde Fjord, midway between Roskilde and Frederikssund, Roskilde Municipality, some 40 km west of Copenhagen, Denmark. The original fishing village is surrounded by large areas of Single-family detached homes. As of 1 January 2022, it had a population of 10,134. History Jyllinge is first mentioned in 1171 as ''Iuleghe'', possibly derived from ''Iula'', meaning "the yellow', an old name for Lilleø, and from Old Danish ''eki'', meaning "oak forest". Roskilde County
Roskilde Amt () is a former county () on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. The county was abolished effective January 1, 2007, when it merged into Region Sjælland (i.e. ''Region Zealand''). Ramsø was a municipality (Danish '' kommune'') in the former Roskilde County on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in east Denmark until January 1, 2007. Roskilde Fjord
Roskilde Fjord is the fjord north of Roskilde, Denmark. It is a long branch of the Isefjord. Cities The cities Frederiksværk, Frederikssund, Jægerspris, Jyllinge and Roskilde (including Himmelev), (home to the famous Roskilde Festival), all have coastline at Roskilde Fjord.
