Roseville Presbyterian Church
Roseville Presbyterian Church, also known as Roseville United Presbyterian Church, is a church at Roseville & Sussex Avenues in Newark, New Jersey, United States. It was organized and dedicated in 1854 and its current Sanctuary was built in 1867. History The church began in 1852 as Sunday school classes, held at North 7th & Orange Streets, in "Rowe's Village", present day neighborhood of Roseville. In 1853, Aaron Peck, who owned most of present-day Roseville, donated the land on Roseville Avenue, where a small frame church was erected. On April 9, 1854, Roseville Presbyterian Church was incorporated by the Newark Presbytery and on April 27, Dr. John F Pingry was installed as the first pastor. In 1867, the center portion of the present sanctuary was built. Designed by Frank F. Ward of Ward & Davis, It was enlarged with wings on either side in 1875. Roseville, Newark
Roseville is a neighborhood in the city of Newark in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. It borders Bloomfield and East Orange. To the neighborhood's immediate east is the Newark City Subway and Branch Brook Park. Roseville is divided into Upper Roseville north of 3rd Ave and Lower Roseville south of 3rd Ave. Originally called "Rowesville," Roseville was farmland at the time of the Civil War, but during the conflict most of the area was turned into Union Army training and camping grounds. Residential development began with the construction of Newark's first streetcar line in 1862, and expanded greatly in the 1880s. Growth was also spurred by the Delaware, Lackawanna, & Western Railroad, which maintained a train station in Roseville for many years (closed in 1982 by New Jersey Transit). Bloomfield College
Bloomfield College is a private college in Bloomfield, New Jersey. It is chartered by the State of New Jersey and accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The college is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) through the Synod of the Northeast. History Bloomfield College was founded by the Presbyterian Church in 1868 as German Theological Seminary of Newark, New Jersey, to train German-speaking ministers. It moved to Bloomfield in 1872 and became four-year college in 1923. In 1912 it absorbed the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, founded in 1912 in nearby Newark. The school's enrollment peaked in 2011. In October 2021, the school announced that it could close in 2022-2023 if it did not find financial help.
