Rose Repetto
Rose Repetto (1907 – 1984) was an Italian-born French business owner. She established the Repetto ballet shoe company. She was born in Milan. Repetto designed a ballet shoe for her son, the dancer Roland Petit, at her workshop in Paris in 1947. She developed ballet flats for Brigitte Bardot in 1956 for the film '' And God Created Woman''. They were known as Cendrillon, from the French version of ''Cinderella'', and became popular as a fashion shoe. In 1959, she opened a boutique 22 rue de la Paix in Paris. Her customers included Maurice Béjart, Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Carolyn Carlson, the Kirov Ballet and the Folies Bergère The Folies Bergère () is a cabaret music hall, located in Paris, France. Carolyn Carlson (born 7 March 1943) is an American born French nationalized contemporary dance choreographer, performer, and poet. She is of Finnish descent. She is the director of the ''Centre Chorégraphique National'' in Roubaix and of the ''Atelier de Paris'' at ''La Cartoucherie de Vincennes'' in Paris. She was awarded the title of ''Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres'' of the French Republic. Career She initially studied dance at the San Francisco School of Ballet and at the University of Utah. The Folies Bergère () is a cabaret music hall, located in Paris, France. Located at 32 Rue Richer in the 9th Arrondissement, the Folies Bergère was built as an opera house by the architect Plumeret. It opened on 2 May 1869 as the Folies Trévise, with light entertainment including operettas, comic opera, popular songs, and gymnastics. It became the Folies Bergère on 13 September 1872, named after nearby Rue Bergère. The house was at the height of its fame and popularity from the 1890s' ''Belle Époque'' through the 1920s. Revues featured extravagant costumes, sets and effects, and often nude women. In 1926, Josephine Baker, an African-American expatriate singer, dancer and entertainer, caused a sensation at the Folies Bergère by dancing in a costume consisting of a skirt made of a string of artificial bananas and little else.
