Rose, Rose, I Love You
"Rose, Rose, I Love You" () is a 1940 Mandarin popular song composed by Chen Gexin and first recorded by Yao Lee. An English-language version whose lyrics have little in common with the original Mandarin was first recorded by Frankie Laine in 1951. The song was brought back to England by broadcaster Wilfrid Thomas in 1951 after doing commentary on the war in Malaya. When he played it on his BBC program he received a barrage of requests for a repeat and he played it again in several more programs. The song is also known under the titles "Shanghai Rose" and "China Rose." History The original Chinese lyrics were by Wu Cun (Ng Chuen; 吳村 ''Wú Cūn'') and the music was credited to Lin Mei (林枚), a pen name of the popular songwriter Chen Gexin. Yao Lee (; 10 September 1922 – 19 July 2019), also credited as Yao Li, Yiu Lei and Hue Lee, was a Chinese singer active from the 1930s to the 1970s. She was the sister of Yao Min, also a famous singer and songwriter. She was considered one of the Seven Great Singing Stars of Shanghai in the 1940s. Biography Born Yáo Xiùyún (Mandarin)/Yiu Sau Wan (Cantonese) () and raised in Shanghai, Yao began performing on the radio in 1935 at the age of 13. ''Glittering Days'' (Traditional Chinese: 東方之珠) is a TVB period drama series broadcast in November 2006, starring Roger Kwok, Charmaine Sheh, Liza Wang and Susanna Kwan as the main leads. The Shanghai Restoration Project (SRP) is a Barcelona-based contemporary electronic music duo, consisting of Chinese American artists Dave Liang and Sun Yunfan. Background Producer Dave Liang was born in Lawrence, Kansas and grew up in Upstate New York. He started learning classical piano at an early age but transitioned towards jazz after hearing Miles Davis' "So What" in high school. He attended college at Harvard and upon graduation moved to NYC to work as a consultant. After work he would spend his evenings looking for jazz gigs at various bars. M-Girls ( zh, s=四个女生) is a Malaysian girl group consisting of Queenzy Cheng, Angeline Khoo, Cass Chin and Crystal Ong. The group was formed in 2001.
