Rosa Sabater i Parera (, ; Barcelona, Spain, 29 August 1929 – Mejorada del Campo, Spain, 27 November 1983) was a Spanish pianist. She was a pupil of Frank Marshall (1883-1959), who headed the Academia Marshall in Barcelona, formerly the Academia Granados. In 1982 she served on the jury of the Paloma O'Shea Santander International Piano Competition. She was killed during the air accident of Avianca Flight 011 Avianca Flight 011, registration HK-2910X, was a Boeing 747-200B on an international scheduled passenger flight from Frankfurt via Paris, Madrid, and Caracas to Bogotá, Colombia that crashed near Madrid on 27 November 1983. Mejorada Del Campo
Mejorada del Campo is a municipality of Spain belonging to the Community of Madrid. History Mejorada del Campo is first mentioned in a 1247 document, as one of the several places belonging to the personal lordship of the Bishops of Segovia south of the Sistema Central. Mejorada was incorporated to the Crown's dominions and properties in 1574. Architecture The town has a self built cathedral which is still under construction since 12 October 1961. It is the magnum opus of former monk, Justo Gallego Martínez. The historic Chapel of San Fausto stands in the town. Frank Marshall (pianist)
Frank Marshall King (November 28, 1883May 29, 1959), was a Spanish, Catalan pianist and pedagogue born to parents of English heritage. Marshall was born in Mataró, Catalonia, Spain. He attended the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu and then began studying with Enrique Granados. Marshall and Granados became close musical associates, and Marshall became Granados's teaching assistant at the latter's academy. When Granados died in 1916, Marshall became its director; he remained director until his death in 1959, and the institute's name was eventually changed to ''Académia Frank Marshall''. Among his pupils at the school was the composer Vicente Asencio. He published two pedagogic works, ''Estudio práctico sobre los pedales del piano'' (Madrid, 1919) and ''La sonoridad del piano'', which attempted to notate piano pedaling more precisely. Paloma O'Shea International Piano Competition
The Paloma O'Shea Santander International Piano Competition (in Spanish: Concurso Internacional de Piano de Santander "Paloma O'Shea") is a piano competition taking place in Santander, Spain. Founded in 1972 by Paloma O'Shea as a national prize, it turned into an international competition in its 2nd edition, and was professionalized in the mid-70s, being accepted into the World Federation of International Music Competitions in 1976. Organized by the Albéniz Foundation and chaired by the Infanta Margarita and sponsored by a network of civil service and private companies, it arranges an extensive world tour for the winners, including debuts in auditoriums such as the National Auditorium of Music and the Wigmore Hall and cash prizes. Avianca Flight 011, registration HK-2910X, was a Boeing 747-200B on an international scheduled passenger flight from Frankfurt via Paris, Madrid, and Caracas to Bogotá, Colombia that crashed near Madrid on 27 November 1983. It took off from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris at 22:25 on 26 November 1983 for Madrid Barajas Airport; take-off was delayed waiting for additional passengers from a Lufthansa flight due to a cancellation of the Paris-Frankfurt-Paris segment by Avianca for operational reasons. During the instrument landing system (ILS) approach to runway 33, the 747 crashed on a hill approximately south east of the airport, killing 181 people, including 19 on-duty and four off-duty crew members. The 11 surviving passengers were seriously injured. The cause of the accident was judged to be pilot error, the captain having incorrectly determined the position of the plane.
