Rosa Luxemburg (film)
''Rosa Luxemburg'' is a 1986 West German drama film directed by Margarethe von Trotta. The film received the 1986 German Film Award for Best Feature Film (''Bester Spielfilm''), and Barbara Sukowa won the Cannes Film Festival's Best Actress Award and the German Film Award for Best Actress for her performance as Rosa Luxemburg. Plot Polish socialist and Marxist Rosa Luxemburg dreams about revolution during the era of German Wilhelminism. While Luxemburg campaigns relentlessly for her beliefs, getting repeatedly imprisoned in Germany as well as in Poland, she spars with lovers and comrades until Luxemburg is assassinated by Freikorps for her leadership in the Spartacist uprising after World War I in 1919. Daniel Marcel Olbrychski (; born 27 February 1945) is a Polish film and theatre actor who is widely considered one of the greatest Polish actors of his generation. He appeared in 180 films and TV productions and is best known for leading roles in several Andrzej Wajda movies including '' The Promised Land'' and also known for playing a defector and spymaster Vassily Orlov alongside Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie in the movie ''Salt''. Ferdinand August Bebel (22 February 1840 – 13 August 1913) was a German socialist politician, writer, and orator. He is best remembered as one of the founders of the Social Democratic Workers' Party of Germany (SDAP) in 1869, which in 1875 merged with the General German Workers' Association into the Socialist Workers' Party of Germany (SAPD). Konstantin "Kostja" Zetkin (14 April 1885 – September 1980) was a German physician, social economist and political activist. He was the son of Clara Zetkin, an iconic pioneer of the political left in Germany. For a time, he became the lover of another, Rosa Luxemburg. Luise Kautsky (née Ronsperger, 11 August 1864 – 8 December 1944) was a German politician and member of the USPD. Life and career Kautsky was a Socialist and active Social Democrat. She married the prominent Marxist theorist Karl Kautsky. She was also a friend of Rosa Luxemburg and Berlin city councilor for the USPD. Adelheid Arndt (born 3 January 1952, in Heidelberg) is a German actress. Life The daughter of a chemist and a teacher after graduation, she first studied ethnology in Berlin and graduated there from 1973 to 1977 from acting school. She started her acting career at the Grips-Theater 1976 and received a role in the film ', set in Prague during the period between 1936 and 1946.
