Rosa 'Hot Cocoa'
''Rosa'' 'Hot Cocoa', (aka WEKpaltlez), is a Floribunda (rose), floribunda rose cultivar bred by Tom Carruth in 2002 and introduced into the United States by Weeks Roses Growers in 2003. The rose was named an All-America Rose Selections winner in 2003. Description 'Hot Cocoa' is a medium-tall bushy shrub, 3 to 5 ft (91—151 cm) in height with a 2 to 3 ft (60—90 cm) spread. Blooms are medium-large, 4—5 in (10—12 cm) in diameter, with a high-centered, cupped, and ruffled bloom form. Petal count is typically 26 to 40. Flowers are russet colored with a darker reverse, and have variation of chocolate and orange colors. The rose has a medium, fruity fragrance and large, glossy, dark green foliage. ''Rosa'' 'Livin' Easy', (aka HARwelcome), is a floribunda rose cultivar, bred by Jack Harkness. It was introduced into the United States by Weeks Roses in 1992 as 'Fellowship'. The rose was named an All-America Rose Selections winner in 1996. Description 'Livin' Easy' is a medium bushy, upright shrub, 3 to 5 ft (91–151 cm) in height with a 3 to 4 ft (91–121 cm) spread. Blooms are 4—5 in (10–12 cm) in diameter, with a petal count of 26 to 40. Bloom form is cupped, flat to cupped, and ruffled. Flowers are orange or an apricot-blend, displaying various shades of pink, apricot and orange, with unusual copper colored petal backs. Floribunda (rose)
Floribunda (Latin for "many-flowering") is a modern group of garden roses that was developed by crossing hybrid teas with polyantha roses, the latter being derived from crosses between '' Rosa chinensis'' and '' Rosa multiflora'' (sometimes called ''R. polyantha'').Phillips, R. and Rix, M., ''The Ultimate Guide to Roses'', Macmillan, 2004, p226 The idea was to create roses that bloomed with the polyantha profusion, but with hybrid tea floral beauty and colour range. Tom Carruth
Tom Carruth is an American rose hybridizer, who has created more than 100 rose varieties, including eleven All-America Rose Selections (AARS). He is currently the E.L. and Ruth B. Shannon Curator of the Rose Collections at the Huntington Library in San Marino, California. Early life and education Carruth's first fifteen years were spent in Pampa, Texas. He knew at an early age that he wanted a career working with flowers. To earn spending money, Carruth sold seeds from the Burpee seed company to local residents. When he was sixteen, Carruth and his family moved to Irving, Texas, where he discovered a passion for plant biology. The All-America Rose Selections (AARS) is an award that was given annually, from 1940 to 2013, by the American rose industry to an outstanding new rose variety. The AARS selection was regarded as the most prestigious rose prize in the United States for 73 years. AARS was discontinued after 2013, and was replaced in 2016 by the new American Garden Rose Selections (AGRS) program. History In 1938, W.
