Roselyn Christine Jones (born 20 December 1949) is a Labour Party (UK), Labour Party politician in the United Kingdom who is the Mayor of Doncaster, first elected in 2013. Early life Her father worked at Askern Main Colliery, seven miles north of Doncaster. She was born Roselyn Cavnor to Edward (Eddy) Cavnor and Mary (Betty) Hunt. She has an older sister, three younger sisters, and a younger brother. She attended the Percy Jackson Grammar School, 1961 entrant. Career Jones served as Civic mayor of Doncaster in 2009–10. Jones was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2017 New Year Honours for services to local government. In the 2018 World Mayor prize, Jones came runner up. Jones retained her Mayor of Doncaster position in the 2021 election. Personal life Jones lives in Norton, Doncaster. The Mayor of Doncaster is a directly elected mayor, first elected on 2 May 2002, taking on the executive function of Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council. Norton, Doncaster
Norton is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster (part of South Yorkshire, England), on the border with North Yorkshire. The civil parish also includes the villages of Campsall and Sutton, and has a population of 4,381, increasing to 4,625 at the 2011 Census. The northern boundary of the parish is marked by the River Went, while the Great North Road forms the western boundary. History Little is known about Norton until it was recorded in the Domesday Survey of 1086 when it probably had a population of 100 who were solely concerned with agriculture. During the medieval period that followed, Robin Hood was associated with Barnsdale Forest to the west whilst the nearby village of Campsall grew in importance, gaining a chartered market and Norman church. World Mayor is a biennial award organized by the City Mayors Foundation since 2004. 2017 New Year Honours
The 2017 New Year Honours are appointments by some of the 16 Commonwealth realms to various orders and honours to recognise and reward good works by citizens of those countries.
