Mayor Of Doncaster
The Mayor of Doncaster is a directly elected mayor, first elected on 2 May 2002, taking on the executive function of Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council. The incumbent mayor is Ros Jones elected as a member of the Labour Party, who won the election held on 2 May 2013. The position is different from the long-existing and largely ceremonial, annually appointed mayors who are now known as the civic mayor of Doncaster. In May 2012, voters decided in a referendum to keep the position of directly elected mayor. Roselyn Christine Jones (born 20 December 1949) is a Labour Party (UK), Labour Party politician in the United Kingdom who is the Mayor of Doncaster, first elected in 2013. Early life Her father worked at Askern Main Colliery, seven miles north of Doncaster. She was born Roselyn Cavnor to Edward (Eddy) Cavnor and Mary (Betty) Hunt. She has an older sister, three younger sisters, and a younger brother. She attended the Percy Jackson Grammar School, 1961 entrant. Career Jones served as Civic mayor of Doncaster in 2009–10.
