Ropotamo Glacier
Ropotamo Glacier ( bg, ледник Ропотамо, lednik Ropotamo, ) is a glacier extending from northeast to southwest and from northwest to southeast on the Burgas Peninsula, Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The glacier is northeast of Dobrudzha Glacier, east-southeast of Iskar Glacier, south of Sopot Ice Piedmont and southwest of Strandzha Glacier. It is bounded by Asen Peak and Delchev Peak to the northwest and north, and flows southeastwards mostly into Yantra Cove, Bransfield Strait. The feature is named after the river Ropotamo in Bulgaria. Asen Peak
Asen Peak ( bg, Аксенов връх, Asenov vrah, ) is a peak in eastern Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The peak rises to 810 m in the Delchev Ridge of the Tangra Mountains. The peak overlooks Iskar Glacier and Bruix Cove to the northwest, Ropotamo Glacier to the east-southeast and Dobrudzha Glacier to the south. The peak was named after Tsar Ivan Asen I of Bulgaria, 1190-1196 AD. List Of Glaciers In The Antarctic
There are many glaciers in the Antarctic. This set of lists does not include ice sheets, ice caps or ice fields, such as the Antarctic ice sheet, but includes glacial features that are defined by their flow, rather than general bodies of ice. The lists include outlet glaciers, valley glaciers, cirque glaciers, tidewater glaciers and ice streams. Ice streams are a type of glacier and many of them have "glacier" in their name, e.g. Pine Island Glacier. Ice shelves are listed separately in the List of Antarctic ice shelves. Ropotamo
The Ropotamo ( bg, Ропотамо , from the Ancient Greek word Ροπόταμος ''ropotamos'' meaning "border river") is a river in south-eastern Bulgaria. It takes its source from the Bosna Ridge in the Strandzha Mountains, running for 48.5 km to empty into the Black Sea near Cape Saint Demetrius between Dyuni and Primorsko. The river is most often noted for its 30 m-wide mouth that is home to an abundance of flora species, over 100 of which endangered in the country. The lower section of the river is a protected area since 1940 and forms part of the Ropotamo Reserve. The lower Ropotamo is a popular tourist attraction because of the water lilies and the rock formations above the river, on some of which white-tailed eagles nest. Bransfield Strait
Bransfield Strait or Fleet Sea ( es, Estrecho de Bransfield, Mar de la Flota) is a body of water about wide extending for in a general northeast – southwest direction between the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. History The strait was named in about 1825 by James Weddell, Master, Royal Navy, for Edward Bransfield, Master, RN, who charted the South Shetland Islands in 1820. It is called ''Mar de la Flota'' by Argentina. On 23 November 2007, the MS ''Explorer'' struck an iceberg and sank in the strait; all 154 passengers were rescued and no injuries were reported. Description The undersea trough through the strait is known as Bransfield Trough (). The basin is about 400 km long and 2 km deep, between the South Shetland Island Arc and the Antarctic Peninsula. Delchev Peak
Delchev Peak ( bg, Делчев връх, Delchev vrah, ) is the summit of Delchev Ridge, Tangra Mountains, Livingston Island and rises to approximately 940 m. The peak surmounts Iskar Glacier to the west, Sopot Ice Piedmont to the north, and Ropotamo Glacier to the south. The peak is "named after Gotse Delchev (1872–1903), leader of the Bulgarian liberation movement in Macedonia". Strandzha Glacier ( bg, ледник Странджа, lednik Strandzha, ) is located on Burgas Peninsula, eastern Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica northeast of Ropotamo Glacier, south of Sopot Ice Piedmont and southwest of Pautalia Glacier. It is bounded by Delchev Peak to the west, Spartacus Peak, Trigrad Gap and Yavorov Peak to the northwest, and by Elena Peak to the north, extends 1.6 km in northeast-southwest direction and 800 m in northwest-southeast direction, and flows southeastward into Bransfield Strait. Livingston Island (Russian name ''Smolensk'', ) is an Antarctic island in the Southern Ocean, part of the South Shetlands Archipelago, a group of Antarctic islands north of the Antarctic Peninsula.
