Roopkar
''Roopkar'' was the first Assamese language, tabloid-sized magazine about Assamese cinema, theater and culture. Established in 1974, the magazine was founded and edited by journalist and writer Pabitra Kumar Deka. Advisers of the magazine were singer & composer Bhupen Hazarika and writer Nirode Choudhury. ''Roopkar'' was published on a monthly basis. It was the most popular entertainment magazine in the Northeast; it also instituted the first popular film awards Roopkar Awards in Assam in 1975. Many new and young journalists contributed to the magazine, some of whom have made a mark in the field of cinema journalism like Kamal Lochan Das, Shekharjyoti Bhuyan, Arun Lochan Das, Rejek Aji Ahmed, Azim Hazarika, Hemanta Kumar Das, Jibaraj Barman, Utpal Datta, Bidyut Kumar Bhuyan, Sanjib Hazarika, etc. The Kolkata correspondent for the magazine was Nitai Ghosh. Pabitra Kumar Deka
Pabitra Kumar Deka (29 January 19405 January 2010) was a progressive writer, columnist, publisher and editor of monthly magazine, film critic and script writer of the State of Assam in India. He is the winner of the Best Film Critic Award in 1988 from the Eastern India Motion Picture Association. The Government of Assam has instituted the State Best Film Critic Award in the name of ''Pabitra Kumar Deka Award'' from 2010 after his death. Early life and education He was born in the small town of Haibargaon in the district of Nagaon (Assam) to Shri Mahendra Nath Deka and Swarnalata Deka. Mahendra Nath Deka, son of Durgaprasad Deka, a farmer from village Kampur, was a government officer in the Agriculture Department. Munin Barua
Munin Barua ( as, মুনিন বৰুৱা; 5 November 1946 – 7 April 2018) was an Indian film director in Assamese cinematography. Among his best-known films are ''Pita-Putro'', ''Prabhati Pokhir Gaan'', ''Hiya Diya Niya'', Daag, '' Nayak'' and ''Bidhata''. Barua is widely regarded in Assam to have been one of the directors who helped popularize and establish Assamese cinema outside the state, primarily elsewhere in India where other industries had historically dominated. In 2000, his film ''Hiya Diya Niya'' became a first 'blockbuster hit' in Assamese cinema, which helped revive the Assamese film industry. Another film, ''Dinabandhu'', received National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Assamese in 2005. He died on 7 April 2018, at the age of 71 in Guwahati. Assamese (), also Asamiya ( ), is an Indo-Aryan language spoken mainly in the north-east Indian state of Assam, where it is an official language, and it serves as a ''lingua franca'' of the wider region. Jahnu Barua (born 1952) is an Indian film director. He has written and directed a number of Assamese and Hindi films.
