Ronny Swiggers
Ronny Swiggers (born 1961 in Belgium) from Mechelen is one of Belgium's most successful quiz players. In November 2013 he became European Quizzing Champion, winning the individual competition at the European Championship in Liverpool, beating compatriot Nico Pattyn and Englishman Jesse Honey. World Quizzing Championship
The World Quizzing Championships is an individual quiz contest organised by the International Quizzing Association (the umbrella organisation of various quizzing organisations from more than 25 countries around the world). The competition has been staged annually since (since 2004 in more than one country simultaneously) with an increasing number of contestants from an increasing number of nations. Since 2006, the competition has been staged on the first Saturday of every June. As of 2022, Pat Gibson and Jesse Honey, both from England, hold the title for the highest-scoring quizzers with 186 out of 240 total points. European Quizzing Championships
The European Quizzing Championships (EQC) are an annual multi-disciplinary quiz event, in which representatives from various countries compete as individuals, in pairs, and/or in teams (club or national). History As most of the top players in the world are Europeans, the EQC are almost on a par with the WQC. The playing environment differs drastically, though, as the EQC is played in one place only, in English only (WQC is played in the language of each country) and has several competitions with more than one player (pairs, national teams - for four players, and clubs - also four players). Nico Pattyn
Nico Pattyn (born on 26 October 1968, in Roeselare, Belgium) is one of Belgium's most successful quiz players. He became European Quizzing Championships, European Quizzing Champion in November 2007, claiming the title in Blackpool. He was the first to beat English quiz legend, Kevin Ashman at the European championships individuals. He also won an individual silver medal at the first European Quizzing Championships in 2004 in his hometown Ghent and in 2013 in Liverpool, behind his compatriot Ronny Swiggers. In 2005 and 2006, Pattyn came in 3rd place on two occasions in the World Quizzing Championships. He has placed in the top twenty of the World Championships on every occasion. Since 2007, countryman Ronny Swiggers has placed even higher than Pattyn ending 2nd in both 2008 and 2009 and 3rd in 2010. Jesse Honey
Jesse Honey (born 1977) is an English urban planner and quiz player from South London, best known for winning the ''Mastermind'' series 2010 and holding one of its records, becoming a member of the English National quiz team later in the year, and going on to win the World Quizzing Championship (individual title) 2012. Life Honey, the son of an English father and American mother, Nancy Honey, was born and grew up in Bath, Somerset, but later moved to London. He studied Japanese at Durham University and took a Master's degree in Town planning at University College London. Mark Bytheway
Mark Bytheway (22 July 1963 – 9 July 2010) was an England International Quiz player best known for becoming Quizzing World Champion in 2008 and winning the ''Top Brain'' competition of Brain of Britain. Brain of Britain In 2007 he won Brain of Britain and in 2008 won the 3-year competition ''Brain of Brains'' beating TV's Egghead Chris Hughes and rival Pat Gibson and 9-year competition ''Top Brain'' titles, succeeding Kevin Ashman as holder. National and International Titles In 2008 he won the prestigious title of Quizzing World Champion. He has been capped six times for the National team (with five wins) and has a current European/World ranking of number 3, behind Kevin Ashman (his pairs partner) and Pat Gibson. Kevin Ashman
Kevin Clifford Ashman (born 2 November 1959) is an English quiz player. He is often considered one of the greatest quizzers in the world, and since 2002 has been a professional quizzer; he has been an '' Egghead'' since 2003. He has won most of the top-level quiz tournaments in which he has taken part, among them several World and European Championships. Early life Ashman is from Winchester, Hampshire, He attended St Bede's Primary School and Peter Symonds Grammar School/College. He then graduated from the University of Southampton with a BA degree in Modern History. He became interested in quizzes in his mid-twenties when he resolved to improve his knowledge of the sciences whilst working as a civil servant in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Oslo
