Clare (electoral District)
Clare is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada which existed between 1949-2013 and since 2021. Prior to 1949, Clare was part of Digby district. It elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The electoral district includes most of the Municipality of the District of Clare, an Acadian area occupying the southwestern half of Digby County. For four consecutive elections from 1988 to 1999, the district had the highest voter turnout in the province. The electoral district was abolished following the 2012 electoral boundary review and was largely replaced by the new electoral district of Clare-Digby. The Nova Scotia Liberal Party is a centrist provincial political party in Nova Scotia, Canada and the provincial section of the Liberal Party of Canada. CJLS-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 95.5 FM in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The station uses the on-air brand name ''Y95''. The station currently airs an adult contemporary format and is owned by Acadia Broadcasting Limited. The station was one of the first radio stations in the Maritimes. History CJLS was founded by Laurie Smith in 1934. Leland G. Trask purchased the company from the Smith Family in 1968. In 1998, Gerry Boudreau, Chris Perry and Ray Zinck, all former employees of CJLS purchased CJLS. Clare, officially named the Municipality of the District of Clare, is a district municipality in western Nova Scotia, Canada. Statistics Canada classifies the district municipality as a municipal district. Geography The Municipality of the District of Clare occupies the western half of Digby County. Most of the municipality's settled areas are located along St. Marys Bay, a sub-basin of the Gulf of Maine. History Prior to the establishment of Clare the Mi'kmaw knew the area as Wagweiik.
