Ron Watson (politician)
Ronald L. Watson (born April 30, 1966) is an American politician who has served as a member of the Maryland Senate representing Maryland Legislative District 23, District 23 since 2021. A member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party, he previously represented Maryland House of Delegates District 23B, District 23B in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2019 to 2021, and served on the Prince George's County Public Schools, Prince George's County Board of Education from 2006 to 2010. Maryland Legislative District 23
Maryland's Legislative District 23 is one of 47 districts in the state for the Maryland General Assembly. It covers part of Prince George's County. Up until the 2020 United States redistricting cycle, the district was divided into two sub-districts for the Maryland House of Delegates: District 23A and District 23B. Demographic characteristics As of the 2020 United States census, the district had a population of 135,756, of whom 106,376 (78.4%) were of voting age. The racial makeup of the district was 25,827 (19.0%) White, 88,037 (64.8%) African American, 603 (0.4%) Native American, 5,035 (3.7%) Asian, 19 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 6,820 (5.0%) from some other race, and 9,374 (6.9%) from two or more races. Maryland Senate
The Maryland Senate, sometimes referred to as the Maryland State Senate, is the upper house of the General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Maryland. Composed of 47 senators elected from an equal number of constituent single-member districts, the Senate is responsible, along with the Maryland House of Delegates, for passage of laws in Maryland, and for confirming executive appointments made by the Governor of Maryland. It evolved from the upper house of the colonial assembly created in 1650 when Maryland was a proprietary colony controlled by Cecilius Calvert. An upset occurs in a competition, frequently in electoral politics or sports, when the party popularly expected to win (the "favorite"), either loses to or draws/ties a game with an underdog whom the majority expects to lose, defying the conventional wisdom. If it happens in a cup competition, it is sometimes referred to as a "cupset" (a portmanteau, combining the words "cup" and "upset"). 2018 Maryland House Of Delegates Election
The 2018 Maryland House of Delegates elections were held on November 6, 2018, as part of the biennial United States elections. All 141 of Maryland's state delegates were up for reelection. Prior to the election, there was little doubt that Democrats would hold their majority in the chamber. Maryland's House of Delegates has had a Democratic majority since the elections of 1920, and it remains a solidly Democratic in elections at both the national and state level. Still, there was some discussion about whether or not Republicans would be able to make inroads in the chamber, especially considering that popular incumbent Governor Larry Hogan was running for reelection at the top of the ticket simultaneously. United States Army Command And General Staff College
The United States Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC or, obsolete, USACGSC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, is a graduate school for United States Army and sister service officers, interagency representatives, and international military officers. The college was established in 1881 by William Tecumseh Sherman as the School of Application for Infantry and Cavalry (later simply the Infantry and Cavalry School), a training school for infantry and cavalry officers. The Maryland State Archives serves as the central depository for government records of permanent value. Its holdings date from Maryland's founding in 1634, and include colonial and state executive, legislative, and judicial records; county probate, land, and court records; church records; business records; state publications and reports; and special collections of private papers, maps, photographs, and newspapers.
