Ron Davies (photographer)
Ron Davies, OBE (17 December 1921 – 26 October 2013) was a Welsh photographer. Life and work Davies was born in Aberaeron, Wales. He developed an interest in photography at the age of 8, while working as an errand boy for a chemist shop in his home town. During WWII, Davies became an official war photographer on the staff of ''Air Information'' with the South East Asia command of the Royal Air Force, stationed in India, the Dutch East Indies and British Malaya. In 1950, Davies was injured in an accident on his motorcycle combination, and consequently used a wheelchair for the rest of his life, though this didn't prevent him pursuing his chosen career. He worked as a still and cine press photographer for HTV, the BBC, the '' Western Mail,'' ''Y Cymro'' and various national newspapers, and produced much private work and mounted many exhibitions. Aberaeron
Aberaeron, previously anglicised as Aberayron, is a town, community, and electoral ward between Aberystwyth and Cardigan, in Ceredigion, Wales. Ceredigion County Council offices are in Aberaeron. The name of the town is Welsh for ''mouth of the Aeron'', derived from the Middle Welsh ', "slaughter", which gave its name to Aeron, who is believed to have been a Welsh god of war. The population was 1,520 in 2001, and 1,422 in 2011. History and design In 1800, there was no significant coastal settlement here. The present town was planned and developed from 1805 by the Rev. Alban Thomas Jones Gwynne. He built a harbour which operated as a port and supported a shipbuilding industry in the 19th century. Carmarthen
Carmarthen (, RP: ; cy, Caerfyrddin , "Merlin's fort" or "Sea-town fort") is the county town of Carmarthenshire and a community in Wales, lying on the River Towy. north of its estuary in Carmarthen Bay. The population was 14,185 in 2011, down from 15,854 in 2001, but gauged at 16,285 in 2019. The National Eisteddfod of Wales (Welsh language, Welsh: ') is the largest of several eisteddfodau that are held annually, mostly in Wales. Its eight days of competitions and performances are considered the largest music and poetry festival in Europe. ''Y Cymro'' (, 'The Welshman') is a Welsh-language newspaper, which was first published in 1932. It was founded in Wrexham, and succeeded other newspapers of the same name that had existed during the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is Wales's only national newspaper in Welsh and was previously published weekly. In 2017, the owners and publishers, Tindle Newspapers Group, announced that they would stop publication and that they were looking for new owners to publish the paper.
