The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Rabaul is a Latin Rite Metropolitan Diocese, Metropolitan Archdiocese in Papua New Guinea. It has its cathedral episcopal see Sacred Heart Cathedral in Vunapope and a Co-Cathedral, St Francis Xavier's Co-Cathedral, in Rabaul. On June 19, 2020, Rochus Josef Tatamai, M.S.C. was appointed the new Archbishop. History In 1844, it was established as Apostolic Vicariate of Melanesia (a pre-diocesan jurisdiction, entitled to a titular bishop and exempt, i.e. directly subject to the Holy See) on territory split off from the Apostolic Vicariate of Western Oceania. On 8 December 1890, it was renamed as Apostolic Vicariate of New Pomerania. In church governance, a diocese or bishopric is the ecclesiastical district under the jurisdiction of a bishop. History In the later organization of the Roman Empire, the increasingly subdivided provinces were administratively associated in a larger unit, the diocese (Latin ''dioecesis'', from the Greek term διοίκησις, meaning "administration"). Christianity was given legal status in 313 with the Edict of Milan. Churches began to organize themselves into dioceses based on the civil dioceses, not on the larger regional imperial districts. These dioceses were often smaller than the provinces. Christianity was declared the Empire's official religion by Theodosius I in 380. Marek Sobola
Marek Sobola (born 3 July 1981) is an authorised landscape architect, professional gardener and heraldic artist from Slovakia. Biography Sobola was born in Žilina, Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia) into a family from Lalinok and Divina. He spent the first years of his life in Divina. Sobola studied landscape architecture at the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA) at the Horticulture and Landscape Engineering Faculty. He graduated in 2004 and began working in own studio. Alongside the architect's practice he continued doctoral studies at SUA at the Faculty of European Studies and Regional Development, the Department of Sustainable Development in 2004 – 2007. After finishing his Ph.D. study he again continued his studies at the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra at the Faculty of Arts as an historian for another five years. William Fey
Bishop William Regis Fey, OFMCap (November 6, 1942 – January 19, 2021) was an American Roman Catholic prelate. Biography Fey was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, on November 6, 1942. He made his first vows in the Capuchin order on July 14, 1963, and the perpetual vows on July 14, 1966. Fey was ordained a priest on October 19, 1968. His superiors at the St. Augustine Province of the Capuchins sent him to Oxford University where he earned his DPhil. Oxeniensis in Philosophy. Fey taught at St. Fidelis Seminary College in Herman, Pennsylvania anBorromeo Collegein Wickliffe, Ohio before going to Papua New Guinea to teach Philosophy in a seminary there.
