Roman Catholic Diocese Of Fort Portal
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal ( la, Arcis Portal) is a diocese located in the city of Fort Portal in the Ecclesiastical province of Mbarara in Uganda. The Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal formerly belonging to Rwenzori Vicariate was erected on 2 July 1961, with Vincent Joseph McCauley† CSC, as its first bishop. He was succeeded in 1972 by Serapio Bwemi Magambo† who served the Diocese until 1991, when Paul Lokiru Kalanda† took over as the third Bishop of the Diocese. Roman Catholic Archdiocese Of Mbarara
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mbarara (''Archidioecesis Mbararaensis'') in Uganda covers an area of 10,980 km² in southwestern Uganda. As of 2003, of the 2.2 million citizens in the area 856,168 are members of the Catholic Church. The archdiocese is subdivided into 25 parishes, and has 114 priests altogether. Paul Lokiru Kalanda
Paul Lokiru Kalanda (27 February 1927 – 19 August 2015) was a Catholic priest who served as Bishop of the Diocese of Moroto from 1980 until 1991 and as Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal from 1991 until 2003. Background and priesthood Kalanda was born on 27 February 1927 at ''Buwunde Village'', Kyannamukaaka sub-county, in present-day Masaka District, in the Buganda Region of Uganda. Kabarole District
Kabarole District is a district in Western Uganda. Kabarole District is part of the Kingdom of Toro. Its main town was Fort Portal before 1st July 2020 when it was elevated to a city, separating it from Kabarole district Government. The new Kabarole district seat is proporsed in Busoro Town Council. Kabarole remains with only one county (Burahya). Bunyangabu county was curved out to form Bunyangabu district in 2017. Francis Aquirinus Kibira is a Roman Catholic priest, who is the Bishop of Kasese. He was appointed to that position on 15 April 2014. Early life and priesthood Kibira was born on 16 April 1958 in the village of Kigoto-Buryansungwe, in Kamwenge District, in the Diocese of Fort Portal, in the Western Region of Uganda. He studied Philosophy at Katigondo Major Seminary in Masaka, from 1977 until 1980. He then studied Theology at St. Mary's National Major Seminary in Ggaba, Kampala, from 1981 until 1984. He was ordained priest on 23 September 1984 at Fort Portal. He served as priest in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal, until 1985. He then served as a lecturer at Katigondo National Major Seminary in Masaka from 1985 until 1987. A bishop is an ordained clergy member who is entrusted with a position of authority and oversight in a religious institution. Serapio Bwemi Magambo (8 May 1928–8 February 1995), was a Ugandan Catholic priest who served as the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal, from 16 November 1972 until his resignation on 17 June 1991. Prior to that, he served as the Auxiliary Bishop of Fort Portal from 26 June 1969 until 16 November 1972.
