The Diocese of Arbe or Diocese of Rab or Diocese of Arba (Latin: ''Dioecesis Arbensis'') was a Roman Catholic diocese located in the town of Arbe (modern day Rab) on the Croatian island of the same name located just off the Adriatic coast of northern Dalmatia, in Croatia, where still stands the former cathedral, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. History The diocese was ancient as it was founded no later than 532, and in the papal sway, originally as suffragan of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Salona, later transferred to the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Spalato (later Salona, then Split, now Spalato-Macarsca). On 17 October 1154 it became suffragan of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Zara. Arbe
Rab [ɾâːb] ( dlm, Arba, la, Arba, it, Arbe, german: Arbey) is an island in the northern Dalmatia region in Croatia, located just off the northern Croatian coast in the Adriatic Sea. The island is long, has an area of and 9,328 inhabitants (2011). The main settlement on the island is the eponymous town of Rab (town), Rab, although the neighboring village of Palit has the biggest population. The highest peak is Kamenjak at 408 m. The northeastern side of the island is mostly barren, karst, while the southwestern side is covered by one of the last oak forests of the Mediterranean.
