Roman Catholic Archdiocese Of Toronto
The Archdiocese of Toronto ( la, Archidioecesis Torontina) is a Roman Catholic archdiocese that includes part of the Province of Ontario. Its archbishop is also the ecclesiastical provincial for the dioceses of Hamilton, London, Saint Catharines, and Thunder Bay. The Archbishop is Cardinal Thomas Christopher Collins (made Cardinal on February 18, 2012). Mass is celebrated within the Archdiocese of Toronto in 36 ethnic and linguistic communities every week making the Archdiocese one of the most ethnically diverse Catholic dioceses in the world. Southern Ontario
Southern Ontario is a primary region of the province of Ontario, Canada, the other primary region being Northern Ontario. It is the most densely populated and southernmost region in Canada. The exact northern boundary of Southern Ontario is disputed; however, the core region is situated south of Algonquin Park, the latter being in an area of transition between coniferous forest north of the French and Mattawa Rivers and southern deciduous forest. It covers between 14 and 15% of the province, depending on the inclusion of the Parry Sound and Muskoka districts which also lie in the transitional area between northern and southern forest regions. Michael Power (bishop)
Michael Power (October 17, 1804 – October 1, 1847) was the first Roman Catholic Bishop of Toronto. Early years Michael Power was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada to Captain William and Mary Roach Power, immigrants from Waterford, Ireland. At the age of twelve he was sent to the Seminary of St. Sulpice, Montreal and completed his training at the Seminary of Quebec. He was ordained a priest on August 19, 1827 in Montreal by Bishop John Dubois of New York. He served as a missionary priest of the Archdiocese of Québec and the Diocese of Montréal. Father Power was appointed pastor at Drummondville, where he remained until 1831 when he was sent as pastor to Montebello. From 1833 to 1839 he was pastor of Sainte-Martine, near Valleyfield. Aloysius Matthew Ambrozic (born Alojzij Matej Ambrožič; January 27, 1930 – August 26, 2011) was a Roman Catholic cardinal and Archbishop of Toronto. He was made a cardinal on 21 February 1998. Biography Ambrozic was born near Gabrje in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (modern-day Slovenia) as Alojzij Matej Ambrožič, one of seven children of Alojzij (or "Lojze") Ambrožič and Helena Pečar. Philip Francis Pocock
Philip Francis Pocock (2 July 1906 – 6 September 1984) was the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Toronto from 1971 to 1978. Early years Pocock was born in St. Thomas, Ontario, on 2 July 1906. After studying theology at St. Peter's Seminary, London, Ontario, Bishop Denis P. O’Connor of Peterborough ordained him as a priest on 14 June 1930 at St. Peter's Cathedral, London. He worked in two parishes until 1933. In 1933 he left his parish to study canon law in Rome (graduating with a doctorate in canon law from the Angelicum University in 1934). He became a professor at St. Peter's Seminary, teaching moral theology and canon law until 1944. John Joseph Lynch (6 February 1816 – 12 May 1888) was an Irish prelate of the Catholic Church. Robert Kasun
Robert Kasun (born December 20, 1951) is a Catholic auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Toronto and Titular Bishop of Lavellum. Early life and education Kasun was born in Cudworth, Saskatchewan, and received a Bachelor's degree in English at St. Thomas More College in Saskatoon. He joined the Congregation of Saint Basil, and was awarded a Master of Divinity by the University of St. Michael's College. He later attended the University of Toronto and received Bachelor of Education (BEd) and Master of Education (MEd). He was ordained a priest in the Congregation of Saint Basil on June 24, 1978. Vincent Nguyen
Vincent Nguyen (born Nguyễn Mạnh Hiếu on May 8, 1966) is an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Toronto. On November 6, 2009 Nguyen was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI as one of two new Auxiliary Bishops for the Archdiocese of Toronto along with Bishop William McGrattan. Nguyen was born in South Vietnam and moved to Canada in 1984 just nine years after the Fall of Saigon which ended the Vietnam War. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in electrical engineering from the University of Toronto and a Masters of Divinity from St. Augustine's Seminary in Toronto. He was ordained a priest on 9 May 1998. He then did further studies in Rome, where he received a licentiate in canon law from the Angelicum.
