Roman Bezrukavnikov
Roman Bezrukavnikov (born 1973) is an American mathematician born in Moscow. He is a mathematics professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the chief research fellow at the HSE International Laboratory of Representation Theory and Mathematical Physics who specializes in representation theory and algebraic geometry. He graduated from Moscow State School 57 mathematical class in 1990, and earned an M.A. at Brandeis University in 1994. He received his Ph.D. in mathematics from Tel Aviv University in 1998 under the supervision of Joseph N. Bernstein. Bezrukavnikov was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study in 1996-1998 and again in 2007–2008. He was a Dickson Instructor at the University of Chicago in 1999-2001. Moscow State School 57 (russian: Пятьдесят седьмая школа) is a public school located in the Khamovniki District of Moscow, Russia. The school was founded in 1877 and is best known for its specialized secondary program in mathematics and its alumni. History Founding and School 4 (1877–1968) In 1877, , a Russian engineer and educator, founded a realschule in Maly Znamensky Lane, which soon became one of the most progressive vocational schools in Russia. After the October Revolution, the realschule was converted into a boarding school with courses in aesthetic arts and renamed to School 4. The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), located in Princeton, New Jersey, in the United States, is an independent center for theoretical research and intellectual inquiry.
