Stroke play, also known as medal play, is a scoring system in the sport of golf in which the total number of strokes is counted over one or more rounds of 18 holes. Jean Van De Velde (golfer)
Jean van de Velde (born 29 May 1966) is a French professional golfer, who formerly played on the European Tour and the PGA Tour. He came close to winning The Open Championship in 1999, but lost a three shot lead on the final hole. Early life and amateur career Van de Velde was born in Mont-de-Marsan, Landes, France. As an amateur he won both the French Youths Championship and the French Amateur Championship. The 1994 European Tour, titled as the 1994 Volvo Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 23rd official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. The season was made up of 38 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and several non-counting "Approved Special Events". Greg Turner
Greg Turner (born 21 February 1963) is a New Zealand professional golfer. Turner was born in Dunedin. He attended the University of Oklahoma in the United States but has spent most of his career on the PGA Tour of Australasia and the European Tour. He won four tournaments on the European Tour and achieved a career best ranking of 18th on the European Tour Order of Merit in 1997. José María Cañizares
José María Cañizares (born 18 February 1947) is a Spanish golfer. Cañizares was born in Madrid. He turned professional in 1967 and made the top hundred on the European Tour Order of Merit every year from its first season in 1972 through to 1993. He placed in the top ten five times, with a best ranking of fourth in 1983. He won five events on the tour. Cañizares was a member of four European Ryder Cup teams and had a record of 5 wins, 4 losses and two ties, including 2.5 points in four singles matches. In 1985 his singles victory over Fuzzy Zoeller rubber-stamped a European win that took the trophy from the Americans for the first time in 28 years.
