Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith
The Silver Wraith was the first post-war Rolls-Royce. It was made from 1946 to 1958 as only a chassis at Rolls-Royce's former Merlin engine plant, their Crewe factory, alongside the shorter Bentley Mark VI. The Bentley too was available as a chassis for coachbuilders but also for the first time could be bought with a Rolls-Royce built standard steel body. It was announced by Rolls-Royce in April 1946 as the 25/30 hp replacement for the 1939 Wraith in what had been their 20 hp and 20/25 hp market sector, that is to say Rolls-Royce's smaller car. The size was chosen to be in keeping with the mood of post-war austerity. Even very limited production of the chassis of the larger car, the Phantom IV, was not resumed until 1950 and then, officially, only for Heads of State. Hooper (coachbuilder)
Hooper & Co. was a British coachbuilding business for many years based in Westminster London. From 1805 to 1959 it was a notably successful maker, to special order, of luxury carriages, both horse-drawn and motor-powered. Founding The company was founded as Adams and HooperCity of Westminster Archives Centre: Hooper and Co Records: ref 738. Administrative history: Hooper & Co, coachmakers, began trading in 1846 at 28 Haymarket. However, the company can be traced back to 1807 when J and G Adams opened a coachmaking business at 57 Haymarket. In 1811, George Adams moved to 28 Haymarket, joined later by George Hooper in 1833. The tax horsepower or taxable horsepower was an early system by which taxation rates for automobiles were reckoned in some European countries such as Britain, Belgium, Germany, France and Italy; some US states like Illinois charged license plate purchase and renewal fees for passenger automobiles based on taxable horsepower. The tax horsepower rating was computed not from actual engine power but by a mathematical formula based on cylinder dimensions. The Royal Dutch State Limousine is the former official state car of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, based on a custom-built 1958 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith Limousine Landaulette. History A seven-seater motorcar was commissioned by Queen Juliana in September 1957 from Rolls-Royce Limited, and it was delivered to the Netherlands on 13 March 1958. It is the only left-hand drive Rolls-Royce with landaulet (landaulette) coachwork where the rear part of the roof can be folded down. The Presidential State Car is the official state car of the President of Brazil. Non-ceremonial vehicles For day-to-day ground travel, the president of Brazil uses an armored version of the 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid, built on a Ford CD4 platform. Previously, non-ceremonial transportation for the president was a 2011 Chevrolet Omega C, which was included in the presidential fleet and used by the president in some shifts. The Presidential State Car is the official state car of the President of Ireland. It is a 1947 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith landaulette. Origins Douglas Hyde, the first president of Ireland was provided with a state car, but his near fatal stroke early into his term of office meant that he rarely travelled in public. When he retired in 1945 the Irish state decided that, his successor, Seán T. O'Kelly, needed a special state vehicle for formal occasions. The Bentley Mark V was Rolls-Royce's second Bentley model.
